| Lyric01-10-07, 01:46 PM | what's worth more, game mechanic wise: +6 to AC & DR2/Adamantine with a -10 to speed +1 max Dex Adj to AC and -5 Skill check penalty or +3 to AC with +5 max Dex Adj to AC as well as -2 Skill Check penalty, & +10 to speed alternately. I'm comparing a Warforged Soulknife with the Adamantine Body feat vs one with the Mithril Body feat. The Soulknife class gains the Speed of Thought feat at level 6, but that only functions in less than heavy armor, the Adamantine Body feat is treated as Heavy Armor. A warforged has a base armor bonus of +2 on creation.. the above figures go on top of that. He's going to play a combat role, with a twist towards good/positive energy.. so I'm considering granting him the Mithril Body feat, the Silver Mind Blade Feat, and eventually, the Silver Tracery feat also. Thoughts? |
| WalkenDude01-10-07, 02:21 PM | Are you going to be the main tank or support? |
| GaffeR01-10-07, 02:25 PM | Depends on your Dex. |
| Toloran01-10-07, 02:29 PM | Two questions you must ask yourself: 1) Are a mobility type combatant or a tank type combatant? 2) What is your dex bonus? If you are a mobility type combatant, you should stick with the mithril body because penalties to movement = bad. If you are a tank type combatant, you want to go with the adamantine body since you are going to have the enemy focus on you anyway (you really arn't going to be running anywhere). If you are some middle ground, then it really depends on your dex bonus. If it is +4 or greater, go with the mithril. If it is less then that, you are better off going with adamantine. |

You get some really nifty abilities, and the levels stack for your Soulknife enchantments. I recommend it. :) |
| Lyric01-10-07, 04:08 PM | Actually, there's a 5 level Soulknife PrC in Complete Psionic that's just that. You get some really nifty abilities, and the levels stack for your Soulknife enchantments. I recommend it. :) Oh totally :) I was planning on taking that around level 15 or 16. I loose the many throw class ability, but I gain an additional +1d8 Psychic Strike :) No loss anywhere else, plus the 5th level Illumine Soul ability is usable by expending a psionic focus, easily doable many times / day. :) Move 30 discharge, refocus, move 30 discharge... (I think :P) Either way, replaces detect undead. ;) As for the type of roll I have in the party, I may end up solo adventuring some, or I may end up being the primary tank. A high dex is certainly an option. In full he'll be a gestalt character, and thus far unless I find another good PrC (like a 3 level PrC for manifesters) I'll likely just run him as this.. 1 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 2 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 3 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 4 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 5 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 6 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 7 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 8 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 9 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 10 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 11 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 12 Soulknife / Lurk / Sanctified Mind 13 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 14 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 15 Soulknife / Lurk / Ardent 16 Illumine Soul / Lurk / Ardent 17 Illumine Soul / Lurk / Ardent 18 Illumine Soul / Lurk / Ardent 19 Illumine Soul / Lurk / Ardent 20 Illumine Soul / Lurk / Ardent I'm going to try to make him the most combat capable as I potentially can, while still keeping him with style. I'm contemplating feats like Mithril Body, Silver Tracery, and Silver Mind Blade. I'll likely take the basic Two Weapon Feat, even though my current build bellow will likely grant a final BAB of +16 or higher. (Thank you Sanctified Mind) I want to heighten the amount of damage he'll be doing on his first strike, and thus make him sort of a sneaky character (Hide and MS skills maxed). I'd also like to use whatever psionic powers I can find to enhance his AC. (As well as to hit and damage). Beyond that I haven't fleshed him out too much, there are a lot of options available, and it's a give and take for the moment. I rather like that he doesn't sleep or eat. Imagine him like a batman meets paladin meets construct.. he believes that all his class abilities are inherant in his design, that he was crafted to protect the weak and promote life. That darkness and light go hand in hand, and force is used to defend the weak and defeat the bad. (I've chosen a few of his Ardent Philosophies you might have noticed) ;) He thinks his mind blade is part of his design, not a class ability, he also thinks his psionic powers are part of his design... that his body was created to store this 'energy' but that once used takes a while to 'recharge' when he 'concentrates on it' (a.k.a. rests) |
