| Vintrastorm02-11-04, 02:26 PM | Hi, My name is Jonis and I'm a Lurker. Now that we've gotten that part over, let me explain why I'm here. It's gonna be short and simple. I'm currently making a (high powered) halfling group just for the sake of it, and have so far come up with 2 characters. One is a caster and one is (almost) melée. I would've wanted "the Blade" to know a couple of extra languages, but speak languages isn't on any of its skill lists. "The Trickster", however, has and I was thinking about buying some... "the blade is curently on his way into the duelist PrC, but I'm not sure that this would be the best, partially because of the loss of SA dices. I've been trying to use as little books as possible, and would like to keep it that way, thoug suggestions are always welcome. I've already put out the skills and will post them at a later date, but I'm not entirely happy with the skills on the trickster. I have been thinking about adding a cleric of some sort, maybe a cleric archer using a thrown weapon or sling or something, taking into account that the halflings get a +1 to attack with such weapons... A +1 isn't much, but it's something. The little band of (strongheart) halflings are currently travelling Sigil/the Outlands I have put their abilities at 18, 16, 15, 14, 14, 12 Halfling number one; the Blade Str 12 Dex 18 Con 14 Int 20 Wis 12 Cha 16 Lvl Class Feat 1 Rogue 1 XXX, Self reliance (planewalker.com) 2 Swashbuckler 1 3 Swashbuckler 2 XXX 4 Swashbuckler 3 5 Rogue 2 6 Invisible blade 1 XXX 7 Invisible blade 2 8 Invisible blade 3 9 Invisible blade 4 XXX 10 Invisible blade 5 11 Fighter 1 Dodge(ftr) 12 Fighter 2 XXX, Mobility(ftr) 13 Rogue 3 Skillpoints 179 Saves (Base+ability) Fort 10 Ref 6 (grace +1 included) Will 3 Hitdice 7d6+5d10+30 Halfling number two; the Trickster Str 10 Dex 18 Con 16 Int 20 Wis 14 Cha 14 Lvl Class Feat 1 Rogue 1 XXX , Self reliance (planewalker.com) 2 Wizard 1 3 Wizard 2 Silent spell 4 Wizard 3 5 Wizard 4 6 Wizard 5 Craft Wondrous Item 7 Rogue 2 8 Rogue 3 9 Arcane Trickster 1 XXX 10 Arcane Trickster 2 11 Arcane Trickster 3 12 Arcane Trickster 4 XXX Skillpoints 162 Saves (Base+ability) Fort 3 Ref 8 Will 9 Hitdice 2d6+9d4+42 The self-reliance feat is taken from www.planewalker.com and is the only 3rd party material I have used so far. Self-Reliance [General] Face it, the only way to survive in the multiverse is by being able to take care of yourself. You’ve realized that you can never truly depend on anyone else, so you’ve trained yourself to be much more self-sufficient. Faction: Fated. Benefit: You receive two extra skill points every level. You spend these extra skill points in the same way as those received each level for your class, and may not purchase more ranks in a skill than the maximum imposed by your level. You do not retroactively gain skill points for previous levels. |
| Vintrastorm02-15-04, 04:42 PM | A bump and a question. This post hasn't had an answer, and I know that not everyone does, but am I missing something that could invite an answer? And for the record, I HAVE been searching for both AT builds, and IB builds. And I HAVE read them all (but not any special AT threads since a month back, or so) |
| Prism02-15-04, 04:57 PM | I have been playing a halfling rogue and another player a halfling monk in one of our campaigns. We both took the swarm fighting feat at first level, just for a bit of a laugh really but now we are both 5th I can honestly say its been very useful. The +1 to hit is ok on its own, but being able to share the same square is great for cramped dungeon combats. |
| Vintrastorm02-19-04, 06:01 AM | I believe you, it would be great. You get to pit 2 against 1 in 5ft wide tunnels. And this is also a bump. |
| Funny Slaughter02-19-04, 06:56 AM | maybe you find some useful information in my article (http://minmax.neonsamurai.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=54&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0&POSTNUKESID=7b964d53675d9fb45b2b6bf2241f 4999) about halflings. i would focus on the rogue-ish side of halflings and make a group that is capable of sneaking as a whole, means at least some rogue-levels or other means of move silently/hide etc. arcane trickster as a caster, a cleric with travel (to avoid grapple), maybe some ghostwise barbarian etc. as for your trickster: i would alternate levels in an order to get access to a higher spell-level between. means: rogue1, nobrainer wiz1-3 get 2nd lvl spells rogue2 enemies start to cast fireball, good to have evasion by now, up your skills wiz4-5 get 3rd rogue3 qualify for trickster gs Funny |
| Vintrastorm02-19-04, 10:44 AM | Thank you Funny. I agree about rog1, wiz3, rog2, wiz5, rog3. The reason I put it that way, was that I can use the skillpoints to a maximum, and that the starting level is 10+ I was thinking, too, that it would be good if all the halflings had hide and move silently, so I will post the skill lists later. that way you can see for yourself how I've put down the SP Where is the deep halfling from? Underdark? |
| Funny Slaughter02-19-04, 10:52 AM | deep halfling is, surprisingly enough, from the MM1 gs Funny |
| Vintrastorm02-19-04, 10:55 AM | thank you. BTW, I'm curentlythinking of adding a strongheart or ghostwise halfling to a holy frenzied berserker liberator build... It would probably be the ghostwise, but since I don't really care about multiclaass penalties.... I'm not really sure... *Gonna check into it later, ut I thiought I'd ask first. |
| Prism02-19-04, 03:45 PM | I also like the planetouched halfling from Fiend Folio - the wispling. Its +1 ECL but but get +4 Dex and +2 Int so its nice for an arcane trickster. The outsider type gives great access with the polymorph spell too |
| Funny Slaughter02-19-04, 03:56 PM | I'm curentlythinking of adding a strongheart or ghostwise halfling to a holy frenzied berserker liberator build... ghostwise halfling rogue3/barbarian1/fighter2/HL3/FB4/RSB7 (HL: holy liberator, FB: frenzied berserker, RSB: runescarred berserk) gs Funny |
| Snow Savant02-19-04, 04:24 PM | Want a Stealthy Halfling Mage who has *FULL* spellcaster levels in lieu of the Arcane Trickster's lesser spellcaster progression? Assuming your 13th Level of play from your original post: Wizard5 / HarperMage5 / MasterHarper3 The Master Harper is located on the WotC site * here *. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frx/20030604a) Both HM and MH give you 4 skill points per level, and include all the great stealth skills like Hide, Move Silently, Search, Listen, etc. Master Harper should be taken for at least 8 levels - or all 10 levels. 8 levels leaves room for 2 levels of Divine Oracle, which gives your Evasion to use with your nifty-high REFL save. It even gives you the UMD skill, although you probably won't have room to pick up a significant chunk of ranks for it. XO, Snow :cloud9: |
| catharz02-19-04, 05:04 PM | Randall: Do you want to be leader of this gang? Strutter: No. We agreed, no leader. Randall: Right. So shut up and do as I say. -Time Bandits Sounds like a lot of fun. I'd say you should make a Gatecrasher, but the PrC ain't that powerful. A Flesheater might be nice, and if you want totaly insanity, make a Half-minotar Half-ogre halfling  |
