Neopopulas 01-24-06, 08:49 AM	Focusing on a strength and AC build for a current character i am working on, i was wondering if there was any good humanoid, high strength but (decently) low ECL rating monster race out there. I thought giant right away, but they are a little extreme (also, i can't figure out their ECL) Other than that, i am not sure what good monster races would make good PCs with a decent ECL, something that won't kill me at level 13
AviLazar 01-24-06, 09:46 AM	Well if you want humanoid then giant is out, so i assume you meant bi-pedal who looks relatively human (i.e. giant). What about half giant? They are low at LA +2...they get good str/con bonus...they are large so they can take the large size feats (large and in charge). I also like Goliath from races of stone - though it doesnt get massive bonuses to str...they get an improved version of monkey grip (i believe without the -2 penalty and since it is not monkey grip at all, you can still take that).
PhaedrusXY 01-24-06, 09:50 AM	Half-giant is only +1 LA, and I thought Goliaths actually got a higher Str bonus? Other than that, those are the two I was going to suggest, also. You might consider tacking on the Mineral Warrior template from the Underdark book, also.
Neopopulas 01-24-06, 10:03 AM	Goliaths i just looked at, actually, are good, +4 strength, +2 con -2 dex for only +1 ECL, its not bad. I was thinking going with Golaiths, with a Large goliath greathammer (3d6) with maybe Monkey Grip as well for, i believe, 4d6 damage with Huge. If i could get a ring or other magic item for Enlarge, would that mean the Huge weapon turns from 4d6 into 5d6 for, whats one larger than huge, Giant? That'd be some nice flavor as well as the numbers.

Khazra Reborn 01-24-06, 11:07 AM	What sources do you have available? Dragon magasine has half minotaur template for 1 LA. When applied to a medium creature you recieve a +12 bonus to str :eek: Though changeling has no LA or str bonus, after gaining 4 BaB you can take levels in warshaper which will give you +4str/con.

Note that Powerful Build and Monkey Grip do not stack. They both have you treat your actual size category as one larger for the purposes of wielding weapons, and neither increase your actual size category. With Powerful Build, you can now wield Large weapons. With Monkey Grip, you can now wield Large weapons. No additional benefit.
pfooti 01-24-06, 02:49 PM	It's kind of a moot point about monkey grip. Monkey grip is a stinker of a feat. If you want to use it, fine, but you're WAY better off just getting power attack, trust me. The benefit to half-giant over goliath is if you're intending to go psionic character. But goliath is awesome, especially given their first level barbarian sublevel, and their funky jumping abilities vis-a-vis battlejump and whatnot.
