| Siduakal04-25-05, 09:54 AM | Anyone have suggestions on a build? Human, by the way. Book Limitations: Complete Warrior, Complete Adventurer, PHB, DMG, MM, ECS, Sharn: City of Towers, Book of Vile Darkness, Book of Exalted Deeds(Well, I can't have any exalted feats, I'm limited to the general ones here), Libris Mortis So... anyone? For feat requirements, I can meet 20 Str, 18 Dex, 22 Con, 14 Int, 13 Wis, 11 Cha.. (Well... he had access to a manual) |
| Father Dale04-25-05, 10:56 AM | Frenzied Berserker + Improved Crit + Power Critical = 200+ damage on crit |
| Timespike04-25-05, 11:24 AM | If you plan on being good, I'd try this: Paladin 5/Fighter 2/Pious Templar 10/Exotic Weapon Master 3 Use a talenta sharrash instead of a scythe (same thing, but with reach) and see if you can take some of the polearm fighting feats from the newest issue of Dragon. (They aren't particularly unbalanced; in fact, I'd say they might turn up in a future book, maybe weapons of legend or something.) Level 1 Fighter 1 EWP: Sharrash, Shorten Grip, Power Attack Level 2 Fighter 2 Weapon Focus: Sharrash Level 3 Paladin 1 True Believer Level 4 Paladin 2 Level 5 Paladin 3 Level 6 Paladin 4 Divine Might Level 7 Paladin 5 Level 8 Pious Templar 1 Level 9 Pious Templar 2 Cleave Level 10 Pious Templar 3 Weapon Specialization: Sharrash Level 11 Pious Templar 4 Haft Strike Level 12 Pious Templar 5 Two-Weapon Fighting Level 13 Pious Templar 6 Level 14 Pious Templar 7 Level 15 Pious Templar 8 Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Bull Rush Level 16 Pious Templar 9 Level 17 Pious Templar 10 Level 18 Exotic Weapon Master 1 Shock Trooper Level 19 Exotic Weapon Master 2 Level 20 Exotic Weapon Master 3 |
| ninjarabbit04-25-05, 11:48 AM | Since you have a int of 14 you might want to consider combat expertise and improved trip for feats and take combat reflexes since you have a dex of 18 and get an AoO when they try to get up after you trip them, along with power attack, cleave, and improved sunder (another combat option for you). There's some other really good feats in CW worth looking at. As far as builds go I'd just go a simple barbarian2/fighterx since my ideas are feat intensive. |
| Siduakal04-26-05, 12:33 AM | Yea the current build I'm looking at is this. 1 - Power Attack H 1 - Improved Initiative F 1 - Combat Expertise F 2 - Improved Trip 3 - Cleave F 4 - Improved Sunder That's the current plan... Considering at 6th level getting Improved Disarm and Quick Recoinnoiter (+2 to Initiative.. I'd like to get the first swing -always-) |
| Zidjin04-26-05, 10:16 AM | A friend of mine is playing a fighter/pious templar/tempest in his current game and is dual wielding dire picks with oversize 2 weapon fighting from comp. adv. Bless weapon helps alot for the offhand crits since it's a little harder to confirm those. Burst enchants are great on scythe weapons too. Not sure if you were looking to go dual wield route but i liked the idea alot :) |
| Overpowered_Munchkin04-26-05, 10:46 AM | The Talenta Sharash is pretty much the same thing as a scythe but it is exotic... dmg 1d10 19-20 x4 |
| Part-Human204-26-05, 11:24 AM | The Talenta Sharash is pretty much the same thing as a scythe but it is exotic... dmg 1d10 19-20 x4 Check the Eberron Errata--they made it 19-20/x2. Although a recent Dragon Magazine reprinted the original. |
| Baneslayer04-26-05, 11:35 AM | Lucern Hammer from Arms & Equipment guide is another Scythe with Reach. My last Scythe fighter (played from lvl 1-8) had these feats: WF: Scythe WS: Scythe Power Attack Combat Exp. Imp. Trip The scythe was +1 Keen and he had a 20 Str so his base damage was 2d4+10 by lvl 6. The Weapon Focus bonus was generally pumped into Power Attack. In retrospect the Lucern Hammer would have taken care of some of the difficulties the character had, especially with reaching his target. If you are playing the character at low levels, save your gold to buy a Keen scythe. That 19-20 crit range is invaluable and waiting until you can spend a feat on Imp. Crit is a waste. If you are playing a higher level game, buy the feat and spend the money for a Burst. If you are getting the gold to buy it +1 Flaming+Acid+Shocking Burst weapon (+10 Equiv) is going to do 4(2d4+bonuses)+3d6+9d10 on a crit and 2d4+bonuses+3d6 otherwise. Since your crit range is never going to get better than 19-20 don't rely on it, get your non-crit damage pumped. Dips are recommended. Barb is good. Cleric is good, too, Destruction Domain will put a Smite Anyone in your back pocket and Magic Domain will allow you to keep a stash of wands for those times where the fit hits the shan. Any PrC that has Critical Hit properties is good (though I can't think of any off the top of my head I'm sure there are some). |
| Tweedledope04-26-05, 12:29 PM | This fella has acess to the Book of Vile Darkness yet no one has mentioned any builds with Disciple of Dispater in them... |
| Khazra Reborn04-26-05, 01:03 PM | I reccomend a gish spellscythe. Try & get 6th level spells at least (not to hard..). Hope DM lets you coup de grace an enemy under the efect of ottos irresistable dance :P |
| PhaedrusXY04-26-05, 01:32 PM | This fella has acess to the Book of Vile Darkness yet no one has mentioned any builds with Disciple of Dispater in them...Is that the one that increases your threat range and stacks with Improved Crit? If so, yeah, definitely a very good idea. |
| Tweedledope04-26-05, 01:34 PM | Yep...Disciple of Dispater is insane if one uses a Scythe... |
| Xperiment04-26-05, 05:02 PM | Fighter 6/Disciple of Dispator 8/Pious Templar of Nerull 6 Very simple. You now carry a scythe with the following critical range: 17-20/x4... Works much better with a falcion. Nice ol' 2d4 damage with a 9-20/x2 crit range. I believe gold makes it have a higher crit. multiplier, right? So 9-20/x3 falcion in a charge... Go epic with Barb/Frenzied and youll be absolutely insane. |

I don't remember)? |
| obrysii04-26-05, 08:25 PM | It might not be terribly optimized, but a Maiming enchantment would be nice. x1d8 crit range. A chance at a lower than x4 crit...but every time you manage one of those power attack + x8 crit will make it worthwhile. |
| Tweedledope04-26-05, 09:00 PM | ...I doubt Dispater or Nerull would appreciate each other messing with their servant...Don't those PrC's require you to worship said deity/archdevil (demon? I don't remember)? Well you can't "technicaly' worship an Archdevil. True that they don't mind it but, they don't have any divine ranks and therefore can't grant you any abilities (spells per day, domains, etc) that a standard diety could offer you. The way my DM incorporates the Archdevils in our campaign is by making them the "Generals of Hell's Armies." Pretty much they're under the dieties of the Abyss (Demons) and Hell (Devils). We treat them more as...aspects of the diety if that makes sense. You said that Dispater wouldn't like Nerull toying around with his "disciple." Well, Dispater wouldn't have any choice because Nerull would smack him up like nobodies business. -=Tweedledope=- |
| OoX Sam I Am XoO04-26-05, 10:41 PM | Psywar 7/psychic weapon master 10/whatever 3 At level 14, you get a crit of 17-20 x5 with a scythe. |
| Siduakal04-26-05, 11:17 PM | I had totally forgot that PrC was in BVD.. Hm, which book are Dire Picks in? My books are upstairs atm put away nice and neat.. lol. I am thinking it was Complete Warrior? |
| Siduakal04-26-05, 11:51 PM | And which book is Maiming in? |
| dragonslayer66602-15-07, 03:39 AM | [QUOTE=Xperiment;I believe gold makes it have a higher crit. multiplier, right? what book did you find that entry on gold in |
| dragonslayer66602-15-07, 03:39 AM | and maiming is in minatures handbook |
| Bonzai02-15-07, 10:27 AM | Heh, just for the "Cool" factor, I want to do something like a Barbarian/fighter/Blood storm Blade with a Vorpal Scythe. lol |
| HoshiAdam02-15-07, 10:59 AM | Fighter1 /Scout6 /Dervish 10 /xx3 1: Scout 1: Dodge 2: Fighter 1: Weapon Focus: Scythe 3: Scout 2: Power Attack 4: Scout 3 5: Scout 4: Mobility 6: Scout 5: Combat Expertise 7: Scout 6 8: Dervish 1 9: Dervish 2: Improved Trip 10+: Dervish till done, then something else at the end. Scout 6 gets you the ability to ignore difficult terrain, which can be nice. This build doesn't get Improved Crit, as a Keen scythe might be easier to acquire by the time you can pick up improved crit. |
| Nathreet02-15-07, 11:57 AM | If you can manage CdG somehow (e.g., sleep hold person, hold monster), that's always a plus. Can you say DC 200 fort save? |
| doink121202-15-07, 12:10 PM | Think about grabbing martial study or putting a lvl or two into warblade. Steely Wind + Punishing Stance is a good low lvl combo Scythe does 2d4+1d6 + 1.5(str) x4 Later on Fun things from the Tiger claw discipline to improve your Dmg and Criticals. Later on Bloodstorm blade would just be friggin humorous. Example Begin Combat Throw Scythe with Power Attack hitting Two adjacent people. It returns to you. Rinse and Repeat. I personally love entertaining types of combat. |
| Surreal02-15-07, 04:22 PM | Hm, which book are Dire Picks in? My books are upstairs atm put away nice and neat.. lol. I am thinking it was Complete Warrior? Yes, they are in Complete Warrior. |
