Whats the point of buying a mace when a morningstar is 4gp cheaper? (or the otherway round).

I notice that alot of weapons have the same damage rating so what's the point or buying a weapon that does d8 damage when you can buy a cheaper one that does that same damage.

And how many levels does it take before your ranged damage get a bonus and not just a penatly.

While the mace/morningstar is a big odd (morningstar is obviously better since it has two damage types), the weapon cost is based off, i assume, the raw materials involved in making one so players don't melt them down for profit or something.

That said, 4 gp isn't a big deal.

Ranged always has ups and downs. I'm not quite sure what you mean here - there is no penalty to damage for ranged weapons save having to pay for Mighty to get your Str bonus on it.

What do you mean morning star has two damage styles? (as i've said, i only have basic game so things are really new to me)

Read the chart. Morningstar deals bludgeoning and piercing damage. Mace only bludgeoning. Against monsters resistant to bludgeoning damage, that makes the Morningstar better.

The only advantage mace has over morningstar is that it's hard to sunder. Not that big a deal, but there it is.

Regarding other weapons, there are factors beyond damage. Some can be used with Weapon Finnesse (Rapier, for example). But piercing weapons can't sunder. You've got to consider all of these things.
