fricot_1 01-05-07, 02:50 PM	My friends and I have decided to start a new campaign, level five characters, and I really wanted to make a pre-gunpowder era marine type soldier. I focused on the Dread Commando prestige class from Heroes of Horror (Requirements BAB: +5, Dodge, Mobility, Hide 6 Ranks, Move Silently 6 Ranks). They have sudden strike, a reduction of armor check penalty, as well as full BAB progression. The problem I have run into is being able to enter this class as soon as possible (when I become level 6) because I really want to utilize the reduction of armor check penalty. My original idea was a two weapon fighting type of character, using Ranger 2, Fighter 2, Barbarian 1 (for the increased speed). This was my original build. Male Human 1) Ranger 1 - Track - Dodge - Mobility 2) Ranger 2 - Combat Style (Two Weapon Fighting) 3) Fighter 1 - Bonus (Quick Draw) - Oversized TWF 4) Fighter 2 - Bonus (Improved Critical (Rapier)) 5) Barbarian 1 Unfortunately the Ranger's combat style only takes effect in light or no armor, which means the dread commando would be useless. The ability to wear +1 Mythril Full Plate and have no armor check penalty is too good to pass up, and if I wore it I would lose everything from my TWF tree. The build I am going for now is... Male Human 1) Fighter 1 -Dodge(1) Mobility (H) Quick Draw (B) 2) Fighter 2 -Two Weapon Fighting (B) 3) Fighter 3 -Oversized TWF (3) 4) Fighter 4 -Improved Critical (Rapier) (B) 5) ???? But the fighter's skills won't let me get 6 ranks in Hide and Move Silently until level 9. Does anybody know a class with +1 Base Attack off the first level and will give me Hide and Move Silently as class skills? Thanks in advance, Fricot_1
PhoenixInferno 01-05-07, 03:08 PM	You could use Guerilla Scout (or was it Guerilla Soldier?) - a feat from Heroes of Battle.
fricot_1 01-05-07, 03:14 PM	I can't believe I missed that.:eek: (I'm embarrased.) The idea does work, but that would mean I would have to cut out a feat for it. Which would most likely turn out to be Quick Draw, and after being ambushed by enemy PC's as many times as I have, it's a tool I don't want left out of my toolbox. Is there no other class that gives those two skills with +1 BAB at first level? Or even another class that gives +1BAB and a bonus feat so I can take Guerilla Worrior?

After this dumbstruck episode of character building I don't believe I deserve to play this God-blessed game any longer. Yes, Ranger works perfectly. For the next eight minutes I will be in seclusion from the human race.
PhoenixInferno 01-05-07, 03:30 PM	I would also give up on being a dual wielding Spring Attacker (which appears to be the track you're on) - because Spring Attack and TWF don't mix. As I am wont to say, they mix like stray high energy neutrons and plutonium.
DaveTheMagicWeasel 01-05-07, 03:48 PM	I presume you're taking Dodge and Mobility for the DC prereqs, in which case take Elusive Target (Complete Warrior) as your 6th level feat. If you wanna go Spring Attack then take Bounding Assault & Rapid Blitz (PHB2), ditch TWF, and then wield a 2-hander and Power Attack. Also, Improved Critical requires BAB+8, so you can't take it at level 4.
