A thing of beauty! [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm optomising a character who's effective but isn't in to the carnage and butchery of stabbing sharp spiky bits at enemies or use of direct damage spells.

My curiosity is piqued by the spell unearthly beauty, BoED pg 110.

Evoke as a free action an effect such that any creature within 30 ft saves (Will save) or dies. It's a Transmutation spell (so harder to thwart with magical defenses), a personal spell, lasting 1 round/level. I like this. There's potential to have it active but just turn it on selectively to drop or blind the enemies when you're needing to.

Now obviously looking, ". . . stunningly attractive," whilst the spell's up, you'd not want to go through the embarrasment of it dropping and being caught mid battle without your lippy on. As an 8th level divine spell it's gasping for a dose of the Divine Metamagic (Persistent) feat to make it last 24 hours.

Question : An Ur-Priest grabs what magic she wants from divine sources. Can an 8th level Ur-Priest cast a divine Domain spell (i.e. unearthly beauty from the Fey domain) or is it necessary to go cleric for this?

No, not without gaining access to that Domain from somewhere else. As for getting that domain, well, a level in Contemplative could work, if you can explain why the Fey domain is part of your character's philosophy....

I have a PC who will be gaining access to the Fey domain as part of Fey Metamorphosis (the 10th level ability of the 3.0 Faiths and Pantheons Heartwarder). That was part of what I negotiated with the DM based on the changes from 3.0 to 3.5.

I'm with Ithandor -- write some Fey into your BS.

That's BackStory, not the other thing. ;)

This is character optimisation. There's a difference? :P
