| Kethka04-23-04, 11:13 AM | That's right. A wyrmling white dragon to be exact. I got the idea into my head to play a very cute/manipulative white dragon and I think it would be really fun. The problem is the +2 LA and 3 racial, albiet very good dragon, hit dice. Looking at what the dragon gets, I really can't see anything that justifies such a large level hit, so I know I'm going to be behind the party in terms of power - that's not what I'm worried about. I just don't want to be *useless* is my only problem. Now; here comes the kicker... I want him to be a sorcerer (For those of you who don't know, wyrmling white dragons get +2 con, -4 int, -4 cha), This is my ideal class, but I get the feeling that if I do become a sorcerer, I *will* be worthless in an ECL 6 party. That said, I have also considered rogue, which might fit the character concept well also (And the characters abilities) For those of you who don't feel like looking it up, here is what wyrmling white dragons get (Since this is in the SRD, I don't think I'm crossing any lines): 3d12 hit dice (+3 BAB, all good saves, 6+int skill points) +2 LA Breathweapon (1d6 cold damage, DC 10+1/2 hit dice+con modifier) 150 ft. fly (average) 60 ft movement 60 ft swim 30 ft burrow Icewalking (permenant spider climb for all icy surfaces) Tiny size Reach with 1d4 bite attack (5 ft, as opposed to the 0 ft for 2 1d3 claws) Immune to sleep/paralysis Immune to cold/vulnerable to fire +2 con, -4 int, -4 cha. Everything else is +0 Darkvision 120 ft Blindsense 60ft Keen senses (4x human visibility) +2 natural armor Okay... I don't think I missed anything. That said, I'm using 32 point buy, and I need at least 10 int and cha (Once again, he's supposed to be cute/manipulative) And the more cha the better. Core rules are preferred, but if you have to deviate, the closer you stay to core the better. Once again, let me say that I'm not looking for a way to make this dragon unstoppable, or even on even ground with the party... I just want to be useful so they don't all hate me :D |
| Funny Slaughter04-23-04, 11:32 AM | i think being a primary caster is nothing one can do with a dragon, the hit due to LA is too hard. your stat-adjustments are also a big hit, i would suggest that you just take another dragon-type that is more in line with a high-charisma concept. (brass for example) for a good basic build i suggest my "old" rogue3/fighter2/barbarian2 swashbuckler is a newer option that is not bad also, but with a -4 to int its not the right descision imo. you get quite some skillpoints as well as good combat abilities. featwise take advantage of your flying capabilities, spring attacking (or improved fly by etc) is a good way to do this. gs Funny |
| Laelenie04-23-04, 11:47 AM | I agree with funny, No dragon primary caster. For sorcerer I suggest white dragon spawn while not true dragon is pretty uber. And Pseudodragon is sligthly better than wyrmling white. +3La and only 2HD but better stat SR 19 poison and telephaty. |
| HoshiAdam04-23-04, 11:52 AM | Cute and manipulative almost begs to be a bard. However, you might consider advancing to 4 HD and starting out with no class levels, and then picking up bard. That will give you more hitpoints, better AC, and a better BAB. It also brings your next dragon level closer, to only 1 year away. Don't worry too much about INT, dragons get retroactive skill points when thier INT increases due to aging. For points, I would get: Str:10(2) Dex:14(6) Con:14(6)+2=16 Int:14(6)-4=10 Wis:10(2) Cha: 16(10)-4=12 |
| Kethka04-23-04, 11:54 AM | Yes I agree... 5 lost levels and -4 cha does not a sorcerer make... I am, however, stuck with wyrmling white, since it's fairly important to my character concept, and it also has the lowest level adjustment of all the dragons (I'm already making the party ECL 6 to start...) That said, I agree that sorcerer is more or less out of the question... How about rogue? He is tiny after all, and get's some nice racial skillpoints to boot. I have also considered arcane trickster, but that might be spreading my stats a bit thin, since I would have to put an 18 in cha just to be workable (which is half my pt buy) |
| Kethka04-23-04, 12:00 PM | Hmm.. bard might not be such a bad idea, actually... Though I'd have to tweak the character a little so he can sing. Only problem is that he probably won't have much gear, if at all (I was thinking Id maybe have a "collar of charisma" and little else (probably diamonds.. white dragons like diamonds ;) ) This would mean he wouldn't be able to take advantage of the bardic casting in light armor, or use any magic instruments, etc. (It is, however, still very appealing. For some reason, I can't get the image of Deekin from NWN out of my head :D ) |
| SpiritGlyph04-23-04, 12:56 PM | Well if you do want to be a good Sorcerer, you might want to consider the white dragonspawn as an alternate race. It's uber-cheezy, mind you, but you'll be white, scaly, and more than able to pull your own weight. |
| Kethka04-23-04, 06:30 PM | What's white dragon spawn, and where is it from? |
| SpiritGlyph04-23-04, 06:50 PM | White Dragonspawn is a template (race?) from the Dragonlance Campaign Setting. Visually, they look like semi-humanoid white dragons. The reason they make good Sorcerers is because they only have a +1 LA, and one of their abilities is that they cast as a Sorcerer of 1 level higher then they are, effectively reducing their LA to +0. |
