| Artisan10-22-06, 07:24 AM | Hey there - I might be joining in a game of D&D tomorrow, and I was thiniking of bolstering their frontline with a Fighter. Now, I was hoping there was a way of balancing optimization with versatility (that is to say, being effective while not putting all my eggs in one basket with a specific feat/trick). Is there a way of doing this? |
| Pinky's brain10-22-06, 07:40 AM | What books does the DM allow? At what level are you starting? How determined are you to be a fighter? (They suck, only good for a 2-4 levels to get some extra feats in a limited set of circumstances.) |
| Artisan10-22-06, 07:46 AM | Level 1, 'Mostly Core' is all I've been given on the books used, and I would like to be a fighter (there's already a Barbarian, so I don't want to step on his toes even by dipping) |

Avoid the temptation of going after whirlwind attack as you level and you will be fine (until around level 7-8, at which time the divine casters will really start coming into their own ... and your will saves will really start hurting). Fighters aren't versatile, casters are versatile. |

EDIT: Though most of those classes probably don't count as "mostly core". In which case, be a Ranger. They make good archers. |

Fighter 4/Barbarian 1/ ? |
| serow_#R10-22-06, 11:08 AM | 4 levels of cleric? +4 to will saves, 2 domains, able to use a heck lot more divine items for in/out of battle purposes ~ net loss of 4 HP (on average) and 1 BAB ~ oh and 2 feats... but since u're already thinking of multi-classing... |
