Wizard 08-14-04, 01:21 AM	I've recently been fascinated by the Mindspy PrC from Complete Warrior. Now, assuming that one could use a medallion of thoughts to qualify for the PrC (as opposed to being a spellcaster or creature with the spell as a spell-like ability), what might be some effective builds for the concept? Is there any way to get another benefit from the high Cha while holding full BAB progression, and without recourse to the paladin, whose multiclass restriction hurts the build?
CompleteSatori 08-14-04, 11:01 AM	If you play in Faerun, paladins can multiclass. If not, then try Ranger or Druid for the necessary Concentrate requirements. Do not use an item to fit the prereqs, as none of your class abilities will be useful, since the DC of the item never changes, and stays very low forever.
grey muse 08-14-04, 01:55 PM	Another problem with using an item is that you suddenly lose all class abilities if anything happens to that item. It's bad enough losing all your gear to a Mordenkainen's Disjunction, but losing 5 class levels of abilities is adding insult to injury. One way into the PrC with full BAB is to use the PrC from Complete Divine (whose name eludes me) that gives full BAB and the spells of a single domain. I don't have CD, but I'm guessing something like Ftr 5/(that class)/ would qualify you for Mindspy entry at level 8, IIRC. grey muse

The Knowledge Domain would give you access to cast Detect Thoughts as a second level spell, which the Divine Crusader gets access to at 2nd or 3rd level, depending on Charisma. Because Charisma seems important to the Mindspy, you'd probably qualify at 2nd level. If you're going for simplicity, try: Paladin of Deity with Knowledge Domain 5 / Divine Crusader 10 / Mindspy 5 BAB: 17 (Still four attacks though) HD: 5d10 + 10d8 + 5d8 Fort: 12 Reflex: 5 Will: 12 You'd have the following abilities which are based on charisma: Lay on hands, Divine Grace (Cha to Saves), Turn Undead, Anticipate (Cha to AC sometimes, Max 5). Edit: I just spotted the BAB requirement (7) of the Divine Crusader, so this wouldn't work exactly as suggested above, but it gets the ball rolling.

polishhappycow 08-21-04, 11:16 PM	I made a build centered around the idea of controlling the minds of his enemies. I focused on enchantment and divination, hoping to use detect thoughts, hold, charm, and domination spells. My build is Sorc 6/EK 9/Mindspy 5. Ends up with 14th level casting, +17bab. Pretty decent spellcasting with some good enchantment spells combined with good combat abilities from mindspy's abilities, arcane strike, and a good bab.
Eidolon Faer 08-22-04, 12:58 AM	I take it you're using that Forgotten Realms cheese to get around the Martial Weapon Proficiency requirement for Eldritch Knight? I'd say Sorcerer 6 / Fighter 1 / Eldritch Knight 8 / Mindspy 5 looks far more impressive simply because it can be played in games where the Dweomerkeeper and the Cheater of Mystra and the Incantatwit would be banned from the competition.
polishhappycow 08-22-04, 01:18 AM	No, I actually took the feat. I don't want to waste the 1cl and 7th level spells by adding a level of fighter, and when I mapped the character out, the feats came out just fine despite the loss of a feat to mwp. I wasn't aware of workarounds to taking the feat.

MWP doesn't qualify you for EK From the 3.5 SRD: Eldritch Knight "To qualify to become an eldritch knight, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Weapon Proficiency: Must be proficient with all martial weapons. Spells: Able to cast 3rd-level arcane spells." Martial Weapon Proficiency "Choose a type of martial weapon. You understand how to use that type of martial weapon in combat. Benefit: You make attack rolls with the selected weapon normally." (emphasis mine) The Militia feat is probably the FR cheese that Eidolon Faer was referring to, it grants MWP: all.
