| jamesnero07-16-06, 12:11 PM | Good morning everyone. I was hoping to find some advice with an epic wizard build that Im working on I find myself at a loss having gone through several ideas I found none of them satisfactory. So I have come here in hopes of some insight. The build is 25 levels, human, any alignmnet save chaotic evil. The WOTC books allowed are pretty extensive to the point where it is easier to give what isnt allowed. The terrain stuff ie stormwrack and its like. One third party publisher is encouraged that being soverign press specificaly dragonlance meterial. I find myself with so many options that its rather overwhelming. I have found several patterns in the previous builds that I'd like to try and continue with. Including a great deal of bonus spells from a high INT and spellcasting prodigy and a rather full spellbook from collegiate wizard. As well as full spellcasting progression among the classes. (planeshifter was an interesting deviation from this I blame magic the gathering for its corrupting influence) My previous build ideas are as follows: wizard:5/wizard of high sorcery 7/ planesshifter 8/ archmage 5 Wizard6/ incantrix7/ loremaster7/archmage 5 Wiard6/ incantrix 7/ planeshifter 7/ archamge 5 The character's base stats before magic items or level dependnet variables are as follows: STR 10 DEX 16 CON 12 INT 18 WIS 16 CHA 12 Really Im shooting for a generalist wizard with a firm grounding in each school. Hes just as quick to hurl a fireball as he is a phantasmal terrain. I hope the above information is enough to inspire those that reply if you need anymore just ask . I apologize in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes found in the above. |

Burn this spell slot by taking Innate Spell: Mordenkainen's Lucubration. What this does is it lets you remember any 1-5th level spell you cast in the last 24 hours, but as an innate spell, you can do this all day long. Note that there is no rule that says that you are limited to the number of spell slots that you have in the day. So now what you do, is you cast ALL your 1-5th level spells before bed time, and then remember them. The next day, you memorize a bunch of NEW 1-5th level spells. That night you cast them AND the spells that you cast the night before. Rinse and repeat every night. In a few days you will be able to remeber ALL your 1-5th level spells (including metamagiced versions of them), every day, and have infinite castings per day. Wands and staffs are no longer needed for you. Teleport as often as you want, have all the energy protections all the time, fly constantly haste constantly, etc. etc. As for collegate wizard, you have so much money that you can buy all the spells you will ever need. Just get a Baccob's Blessed Book and fill it up. Remember, learning spells out of another wizard's spellbook only costs 50 gp per level. You don't need to buy scrolls for all of this. |
| jamesnero07-16-06, 02:45 PM | unfortunately I cant take improved spellcasting capacity X5 because of a lack of epic levels. While I do appreciate your imput I was looking for more of a solid build idea. I dunno I think theres a flaw with your infinite casting thing at thevery least my DM wont allow something so obvious. |
| PhoenixInferno07-16-06, 05:21 PM | If you're starting at level 25 and can't use Epic rules, then you would do well look at a PrC (or two) that sacrifices some caster levels for significant benefit - like Eldritch Knight or Master Transmogrifist (Complete Arcane) and make up the difference with Practiced Spellcaster. |
| Encard07-16-06, 06:24 PM | Err... You're level 25. Anything above level 20 is epic levels... you should be able to take epic feats with your 21st and 24th level feats. Or is your group using houserules there? If you can use Dragonlance material, take a look at the War Mage PrC from Age of Mortals. In 5 levels it gives (iirc) +3 to each die of damage your spells do, a couple bonus feats, and another handy ability or two. Very effective, even if you're not playing a simple blaster - effectively doubling your damage lets you memorize more other spells, not to mention the other abilities. Maybe build like... Wizard 5/Incanatrix 10/War Mage 5/Epic Incanatrix 5? |
| MultiClassGeek07-16-06, 06:49 PM | I think what jamesnero meant (in response to Psifon's comments) is that, although the char is Epic, he's not Epic enough to take Improved Spell Capacity five times over. The points made elsewhere are good, though: Normal spell progression stops after you hit 20 levels of Casting. So, my suggestion would be to find a nice Prestige class that gives funky abilites, but less-than-perfect caster progression. Overall, you can afford to drop up to 5 levels of Existing Spellcasting Class, because when you take some more Wizard at levels 21-25, you'll get your "missing five", taking up to caster-20th-spells-per-day. If you're worried about caster level, take Practised Spellcaster for a +4 boost. The net effect would be something along the lines of Wizard 5/ Something(s) Else 10 / Archmage 5 / Wizard 5 I don't usually play Wizards, though, so I don't know what's good (though Incantitrix always seems popular, and WarMage has some nice bonuses...) |
