| Malk11-02-03, 01:37 PM | I'm building an evil character for an upcoming game, and the DM told me I could use the Book of Vile Darkness :D. Core, Splat, FR, BoVD allowed. I'd like to get an opinion on the construction. (3.5) Stats: 32 point-buy Aasimar  Ranger 1/Fighter 4/Mortal Hunter 10/ 1.Rng1 - Alertness, Track, Favored Enemy 1 (Human), Wild Empathy 2.Ftr 1 - Dodge 3.Ftr 2 - Mobility, Mortalbane 4.Ftr 3 - 5.Ftr 4 - Power Attack 6.Hnt 1 - Celestial Bloodline, Mortal Hunting +1, Mortal Skin (any humanoid) 7.Hnt 2 - Detect Mortals, Boost Spell-like Ability 8.Hnt 3 - Mortal Hunting +2 9.Hnt 4 - Outsider Wings, Smite Mortals 10.Hnt 5 - Spurn Mortal Magic, Mortal Skin (any nondragon) 11.Hnt 6 - Mortal Hunting +3 12.Hnt 7 - Flyby Attack, Claws of the Overfiend 13.Hnt 8 - Mortalbane Shout 14.Hnt 9 - Mortal Hunting +4 15.Hnt 10 - Improved Flyby Attack, Slay Mortal, Mortal Skin (any) Basic idea is to use a Greatsword + Power Attack, at level 12 using Flyby Attack (P.Attack to offset the lack of multiple attacks). Aasimar is there more for flavor than anything, but his +2 Will and +2 Cha synergies pretty well with Spurn Mortal Magic and his spellcasting. From there on, I have no idea what to take to finish the build. Suggestions & comments welcome :D |

Interesting though, an evil aasimar taking advantage of his celestial powers to hunt mortals. Blackguard levels after what you have get you charisma to your saves, and you apparently will have a decent charisma for Slay Mortal. You could always take Monk 2 / Ninja of the Crescent Moon 2 and get Improved Evasion to add to the Flight ability. Then, you don't have to worry about area effect spells taking you out of the sky. |
| Curse_of_Cassandra11-02-03, 04:57 PM | You should check out Snow Savant's bladeling (MMII) mortal hunter build; I don't know how to link it but a search should come up with something. I think it works much better than an aasimar. |
| catharz11-02-03, 05:14 PM | Awesome, I'd love to duel your Mortal hunter Aasimar with my Fiend slayer Aasimar some day :smirk: I'm not sure how you want to deal with the first 5 levels, there are plenty of good options (Ninja, Fighter (or variants), more ranger, Tainted (would help explain the evil), or even barbarian). However, if you throw in 2-3 levels of Arcane duelist you can get Charisma to AC, and Dexterous strike for the THF + power attack loophole (if your DM/conscience lets you use it). Oh ya, here is a similar build I did a while back, that requires the ritual of alignment [evil]: Aasimar Ranger 1/Monk 2/Fiend of Posession 6/Mortalhunter 8/Blackguard 3 2:Ran 1 |----------------------|+1 | 3:Ran 1/Mnk 1 |----------------|+1 | 4:Ran 1/Mnk 2 |----------------|+2 | 5:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 1 |----------|+2 | 10:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6 |---------|+5 | 11:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6/MH 1 |----|+6 | 12:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6/MH 1/Blk 1|+7 | 14:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6/MH 1/Blk 3|+9 | 15:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6/MH 2/Blk 3|+10| 21:Ran 1/Mnk 2/FoP 6/MH 8/Blk 3|+16| |
| Snow Savant11-02-03, 06:35 PM | As Curse of Cassandra mentioned above, here is a reprint of that build back from May 2003. *** Your race is .... a Bladeling !! (..from Monster Manual II) Rgr3 / Bard4 / Templar1 / Blackguard3 / MortalHunter8 One of the more semi-balanced PrC's in the BoVD is the Mortal Hunter (at least compared to ToJ & Ur-Priest). The PrC has a Ranger feel to it, but I did not include the build in the current 3.5 Ranger thread as it is dominated by CHA-based classes/PrC's. This build has a number of neat synergy hooks. And it has the distinction of using a weird, ungainly-looking prefix - Rgr3/Bard4. The 3 Rgr levels are economic in that you smartly use all 3 feats you gained (Track, TWF, & Endurance) for pre-req's and primary fighting style. Why TWF? You'll be getting bonus damage from Divine Might (Blackguard turning) & Mortal Hunter's +3 Favoured Enemy damage. And face it, the majority of your foes will be mortals, hence your damage bonuses are decent substitutes for SA damage. For your 1 Ranger Favoured Enemy (3.5), chose Human. Think of adding more feats like Extra Favoured Enemy to pump up that bonus to higher levels. Why a high CHA? Here's why: 1. CHA-based Bard spells. 2. CHA-based Mortal Hunter spells. 3. Bard Song DC's. 4. Blackguard CHA-to-Saves & Smite. 5. Divine Might feat. 6. MH's Mortalbane Shout. You need to be an outsider to be in this class. I chose Bladeling. A +1 ECL class with attributes that synergize with Mortal Hunter (and they have +4 Natural Armor). Your 1d6 Claw Attack is boosted to 1d8 by MH's free "Claws of the Overfiend. Featwise, you have no flexibility until after you enter Mortal Hunter. Before then, on your level-ups, you need to take WpnFocus: ShortSword, Cleave, Sunder, Alertness, & Mortalbane. Later on, pick up Imp. & Greater TWF. Skillwise, you have a excellent skill ranks & can max-out stealth skills like Hide/Move Silently. Pump up your Perform ranks cross-class if you can do so economically. Hope you like! Suggestions, corrections, inquisitions welcomed. XO, Snow :cloud9: |
