Ability Damage Reduction [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-06-05, 08:50 PM Is there anywhere you can get ability damage reduction. Not immunity, but reducition? Feats, spells, races, templates, class levels, anything?

This is part of a build I'm trying to build in another thread, but this is something someone who might know, but wouldn't look at the other thread.

12-07-05, 11:09 AM Out of curiousity, why are you against being immune to it? Unless the build needs to be able to use ability damage on itself somehow I'd rather be immune to it completely. Avoids that whole pesky poisons and creatures supernatural ability damage thing nicely.

12-07-05, 11:30 AM The incarnum deal sounds like it is more what you're looking for, but there is a feat in Heroes of Horror that allows you to make a save every time you are hit by an ability damaging attack (such as from a wraith). If you succeed at the save (Will DC 20?) you negate the ability damage.

well that exactly why I don't want to be immune I'm looking to use the PRC thrall of Fraz-Urb'luu from dragon 333 which has an ability to cast any spell out of staff even its not on your spelllist and you can take constitution ability damage instead of charges. Meaning if I can get reduction I can cast spells out of staffs for free and never use any charges, but it doesn't work if you have no constitution or ability damage immunity. The best I've got is to put Heal into the staff and use it every once in awhile to cure the lost constitution.

If so Necropolitan is the easiest at +0 LA, but any undead template will do it for you. Many prestige classes will turn you into an undead or construct. Some few magic items will prevent all ability damage.

can you give an exemple for a magic item ?Green Star Adept turns you into a construct. I hear that Dread Necromancer (base class in Heroes of Horror) turns you into a lich at level 20.

As for magic items there is the Absorbing ability for armor in Ghostwalk (uses charges so not unlimited), that is the only one I remember at the moment. Becoming undead or a construct is the most effective way to become immune to those (I prefer undead).

There are probably a few spells that temporarily make you immune to ability damage, if so try to get one of those made permanent, or put into a continuous magic item.

Then I guess I'll just have to settle with finding a way to heal ability damage quickly preferably as a free action. Quicken Heal might work...that requires Artificer, Adept(for 5th level Heal), or a way to reduce Metamagic feats' cost. Any ideas on how to heal the damage

12-08-05, 08:24 AM Sheltered Vitality is a spell in Libris Mortis that makes you immune to fatigue and ability damage and drain.So a continuous item of that would be 60,000gp (level 3 spell * 5th level caster * 2000 continuous * 2 for min/level duration spell).
