- bow with the Splitting enhancement (Champions of Ruin) - split into two identical arrows
- arrow with the Spell Storing enhancement
- spell to be placed in arrow: Shivering Touch (Frostburn) - 3d6 dex damage, no save
- spell cast by ranger: Hunter's Mercy (Spell Compendium) - auto crit next attack

So does this work? and if so how much damage would it do? I'm assuming that only one of the split arrows will auto-crit, but does the spell get copied? Text from CoR says that the arrows are identical... so that would be 9d6 dex damage.

D'oh, just noticed Shivering Touch text says "on a succesful melee touch attack"... so I guess it's invalid to place it in an arrow? Though it does seem to meet the "targeted spell" criteria...

Are there any other spells which do decent ability damage?

You don't wield arrows.

Wha...? Crap you're telling me spell storing ammunition is illegal? Oi, my group's been doing that wrong for a looooong time... and to think arrows with Hold Person in them were the only thing that saved us in many an encounter.

Guh... ok, tossing the first post out the window... are there any efficient ways to get the whole "crit for increased ability damage" idea going?

Wounding doesn't multiply on a crit, but what the heck ... with splitting and the arrowsplit spell you shoot one hell of a hail of arrows. With a lesser metamagic rod of maximize your first arrow would split up into 6 arrows at a minimum, and 10 at a maximum (depending on how your DM stacks the abilities).

The XPH has the only nice on a crit effects, Coup de Grace and Soulbreaker.

Where is the arrowsplit spell from?

Hmm, what about if you use the Arcane Archer's imbue arrow ability with the above? Would that multiply the spell as well?

Certain arrows in race of wild and arms and equip are slashing.
Combine with vorpal bow.
Hunters mercy.
Find the gap etc

arrows may be slashing, but the bow is not. Vorpal in 3.5 works only on a natural 20, however Underdark and BoVD has really awesome weapon enhancements that work on crits.

Where is the arrowsplit spell from?Same book as splitting, CoR.
Hmm, what about if you use the Arcane Archer's imbue arrow ability with the above? Would that multiply the spell as well?I would say no.

As a player, the splitting enhancement creates a clone.

As a DM, the arrow is cut in half. 3d6 would be divided by the number of arrows, or you would have to cast your spell into the arrow multiple times - impossible with spell storing. For example, sneak attack.

Splitting arrows - do you get to sneak attack everyone the arrows hit (within 30 feet)?
