| sereg04-09-04, 04:34 PM | I need to find immunity to ability damage, preferably in a PrC Dip or Magic Item. The only thing I have found in all my time looking is Skullclan Hunter from Miniatures, but that's far too costly level wise for my purpose. Does anyone know of any way, short of becoming undead of getting protection/immunity from ability damage/drain? (Talking charisma/wisdom/ect, not negative levels). Thanks in advance, Sereg |
| jtgalt04-09-04, 05:13 PM | I believe there's an item in Defender's of the Faith that does it, and in Book of Exalted Deeds. It's an add-on to armor as I recall. |
| ZeroEffect04-09-04, 06:05 PM | Absorbing armor from DotF absorbs points of ability draining up to its enhancement bonus per day. Soulfire armor from BoED is even better. It makes you immune to all draining. |
| sereg04-09-04, 06:10 PM | Ignorant... I looked at SoulFire, but I didn't realize immune to energy drain + any negative energy affect protects you from ability damage? Which one of its' features protects you from ability damage? Sereg |
| ZeroEffect04-09-04, 06:18 PM | Isn't ability drain a form of energy drain? |
| sereg04-09-04, 06:32 PM | which would explain why the skullclan hunter gains BOTH immunity to ability damage/drain and energy drain. This also explains why undead are listed as immune to ability drain, OR energy drain, seperately. Sereg |
| ZeroEffect04-09-04, 06:51 PM | They're negative energy effects. Just like energy drain, ability drain can be reversed through restoration spells. Absorbing or soulfire armor won't protect you against ability lost from disease and poison. |
| Neonsamurai04-09-04, 07:03 PM | Ability damage is not always a result from negative energy. In fact most cases of ability damage result either from blood loss (CON drain usually), poison and diseases. Soulfire armor does not protect from these sources of ability damage. One could argue if the ability damage and drains from certain undead are negative energy effects though. |
