| Isirga Eth04-02-05, 04:48 PM | Hi, A couple of nights ago I just rolled 18 16 16 16 15 14 , which are the highest stats I have ever rolled in my 15+ years of gamer life. Rather than making a character right away, I decided to sit back and contemplate for a few days just what I would do with them. I already have a few ideas but I might as well ask the experts - can you recommend me a few good core-only builds that focus on taking advantage of these ability scores? What are the best combinations I can aspire to? Thank you, JC |
| Isirga Eth04-02-05, 04:50 PM | I forgot to add, Star Wars d20 builds/combinations (also focusing on taking advantage of the above stats) are welcome as well. Thanks |
| Xeraph04-02-05, 05:02 PM | Illithid Slayer! Oh wait.. never mind. :D Maybe you should re-edit your thread name so that people know that your talking about Star Wars. I mean, most play regular D20, and to be honest, your title doesnt draw the biggest attention to such players. Good gaming. |
| Isirga Eth04-02-05, 05:07 PM | I don't mean ONLY star wars, in fact my main choice is D&D. Quoting myself: "Star Wars d20 builds/combinations (also focusing on taking advantage of the above stats) are welcome as well." |
| Xeraph04-02-05, 05:19 PM | So the scores arent for a particular campaign? |
| primetimekiller04-02-05, 05:22 PM | if this is the best score of you 15 year gaming expierience you should probably go and buy yourself some new dice cause those obviously suck^^ but anyway if you have to keep them in this order i would suppose you build some kind of fighter... i would suggest a barbar1/fighter4/tribal protector2/freny berserker x maybe mix in some warhulk... grab a 2h weapon(i suggest a scyte which has a 4times critical modifier) go out there and kill all... if you still can assign them and you want a arcane build try wizard5(or sorcer)/incantrix10/archmage this always works but i prefer smashing heads.... Ranger1 / Fighter4 / Peerless Archer3 / Deepwood Sniper2 / Order of the bow Initiate 10 would be nice if you prefer to fight from distance... well to be honest these abilitys are good enough for everything... edit im stupid!!! i didn't notice its core only.... in that case try a druid... these guy can be badass at higher lvl or take some fighter lvl and some mage and then move on to eldrich knight for a standard gish build.... |
| Isirga Eth04-02-05, 05:24 PM | I can assign them but my DM insists - core only. No incantatrix, no deepwood sniper, no frenzied berserker. Core D&D books OR core Star Wars - in your opinion, what is the best I can do with those stats and those sources? Thanks |
| primetimekiller04-02-05, 05:32 PM | or try a an arcane trickser... it should look like wizardX/rougeX/arcanetrickser some people prefer to take a bard in stead of wizard which give bardic music and bardic knowledge and some more hp... |
| Isirga Eth04-02-05, 06:09 PM | So the scores arent for a particular campaign? I plan to use them for a D&D PC, though making a Star Wars character is also a possibility |
| Isirga Eth04-05-05, 12:31 AM | in that case try a druid... these guy can be badass at higher lvl or take some fighter lvl and some mage and then move on to eldrich knight for a standard gish build.... A druid would be a waste of my mega-scores for I'd always be using the stats of some other creature; I think it will have to be a gish (sigh) |
| PhaedrusXY04-05-05, 12:52 AM | Here's a semi-off-the-wall gish idea: monk2/palladin2/sorc6/EldritchKnight10. You use your Charisma for your casting stat, and add it to your saving throws, and add Wisdom to your AC. The only stat you don't really need high is Int, and everyone can benefit from a decent Int for skillpoints. You could also invest in the Combat Expertise based feats (Improved Trip, etc). You'll have BAB +16 and a caster level of 15. If you don't care about evasion, drop one level of monk and get 8th level spells (probably a better deal, anyway). I'd allocate stats something like: Con 18 Str 16 Dex 16 Wis 16 Cha 15 Int 14 You might swap Wis and Cha. Or you could just play a single-classed monk or palladin. They suffer from MAD more than the rest of the core classes, and benefit from high stats more, as a result. I'd say ranger and rogue are the next most stat-hungry core classes, followed by fighter and then the casters. Or leave off the sorcerer and EK levels, and go with a palladin/monk mix of some kind. I'd probably favor stopping palladin at 2 or 4, and the rest monk. |
| Tempest Stormwind04-05-05, 01:01 AM | Alternately, head here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=4584975). Now find as many core-or-allowable ways to get effective overlap from all of them. :D For star wars, I'm a bit less familiar with it, but I might be able to come up with something. May give it a shot later. |
| Isirga Eth04-05-05, 01:04 AM | I was thinking paladin4/sor6/EK10, swapping the Con and Cha stats - other than that, it is exactly like the idea you suggested... well that's one of my options anyway. If nobody comes up with a better idea I'm highly likely to ending up like this: Str 16 Dex 16 (18 by 20th lvl) Con 16 Int 14 Wis 15 (16 by 4th lvl) Cha 18 (20 by 12th lvl) 1st lvl: Sor1 (a kid with 'strong magical potential', taken as an apprentice by a holy order) 2nd-5th lvl: Pln1-4 (the kid begins studying the holy texts and combat forms) 6th-10th lvl: Sor2-6 (the kid begins advanced magical training) 11+ EK1-10 (the kid's career as a holy arcane warrior begins) What do you think? I'm still open to other build ideas as long as they are core-only and take advantage of the high stats. If you think this build's OK, suggestions for feats are also welcome. |
| PhaedrusXY04-05-05, 01:07 AM | If you think this build's OK, suggestions for feats are also welcome.Yeah, it's ok, but you'll have a hard time casting in armor without the Spellsword PrC, and you'll have to heavily buff yourself to get a decent AC without armor (which you'll need as a Gish). That's why I suggested the monk levels, to boost your AC. You could also just take the Still Spell feat, but that will further cut your access to higher level spells (which is already hurting from your multiclassing). Actually, you might consider playing an aasimar. The LA sucks at the low levels, but at the upper ones the ability to polymorph into outsider forms might be worth it (planetar has high natural armor, wings, large size, and humanoid shape). Also, depending on how your DM jives with the idea, you might be able to skip the palladin levels if you want, as all outsiders are supposed to be proficient with all martial weapons. Then you could just go with something like Sorc6(or wiz5)/EldritchKnight10/whatever4. |
| Isirga Eth04-05-05, 01:12 AM | The problem with the monk level is it makes me lose 1 point of BAB... though the AC bonus does make it worthwile and then some. I was thinking of compensating for lack of armor with Cat's Grace/Shield/Mage Armor at all times... also, my DM is funny about people taking monks to non-oriental settings. I'll talk to him about a couple monk levels :) Thanks for your response so far! |
