Hi all,

We just started a new game after retiring some characters last weekend, and the last time I created a character was before Complete Arcane had come out.

I just leafed through Complete Mage and I really like Abjurant Champion, I'm really impressed with its HD + Spellcasting + other special abilities. Similarly I saw that a couple of abilities overlapped with Argent Savant. I was curious to see if there was a way to get into these prestige classes without having to spend any levels on martial classes or losing caster levels.

I know this is really going to sound stupid, but I do not want to have duskblade as my primary spellcasting ability. I know its gets me to minimum requirements the fastest, but it does not net me any of the spells I want for the end result. I'd really like to avoid non-humanoid races, and level adjustments.

Overall my character looks something like this, a secondary melee character with lots of focus on the ramped up effects of mage armor and supplementary spellcasting to a very caster heavy group. Kind of a toolbox.

Wizard9/Abjurant Champion 5/Argent Savant 4/?? 2

As for feats, I'm going to take a couple of flaws, probably going to be human, and things I could think of off the top head include Spellcasting Prodigy, Collegiate Wizard, Arcane Manipulation, Arcane Strike, so on and so forth.

I know its far from optimal, I know there is a lot of work to go, but it seems that the pool of information and possibilities is getting deeper and my ability to retain and remember this stuff is slowing down.

Forgot to add, all WotC products are available for use to create this character

Abjurant Champion requires a BAB of +5 and proficiency with a martial weapon (free if you're an Elf, otherwise requires a feat). Wizard 10 will give you the BAB, or were you thinking Wizard 9/AS 1/AC 5/AS 4?. Maybe go all the way with Argent Savant for Wizard 10/Abjurant Champion 5/Argant Savant 5? It has the virtue of simplicity, and you get to make your opponent's defensive spells blow up for small amounts of damage, which is sort of neat, if not all that important.

That seems about as straight forward as it gets, which is about the same as I put up above. Are there any suggestions on feats or specific spells that double up with the abilities of both PrC's?

Maybe be a diviner specailist, can never go wrong with having those extra divination spells each day.

Feats spell penteration and great spell penteration,

spells hmm well lets see. Shield and Greater Luminous Armour (BoED) with a cranked dex score grants you an AC in the low 40s plus your melee oppentants are -4 to hit you.

All the force spells you can lay your hands on, thunderlance, orb of force, magic missle, chain missile, etc.

Assay resistance is a must.

all I can think of without grabbing books or drinking more coffee been a long day.

Just go through the books and make a list of all the cool force damaging spells, aswell spells without saves can never go wrong there either.

Where are Thunderlance and Chain Missile from? I like force effects and the Argent Savant a lot, and those sound like cool options for that purpose.

Both can be found in Spell Compendium

Wizard 10/Abjurant Champion 5/Argant Savant 5?

Good, but put in some strong low level PRC and remove some of those wizard levels. If you can spare the feat, 5 levels of incantatrix. Ruathar anyone can get into for 3 levels, although I think not being an elf might be a pre-requisite...you could fit some mage of the arcane order in, or perhaps 3 levels of Initiate of the Sevenfold Viel...

Wizard6/Ruathar3/Abjurant5/Argent5/xxx1 loses you a Wizzy feat, but gains you a level and some minor elfish benefits. (!)
Fill in the level with mindbender for a boost to FORT and Telepathy.

Good idea! Elves can be Ruathar, but I believe Ruathar gives you proficency with Longsword, Long Bow or Short Bow, which would remove the need to be an elf anyway.

I like this version. Ruathar also gives you extra skill points, good will and reflex saves, and d6 for hit points.

In the way of items, you might want a Ring of Wizardry I for the extra spell slots for casting shield. Either that, or you can cast it spontaneously with Signature Spell from the FRCS. I'd also recommend Extend Spell to keep the buffs around longer (If you have access to Dragon, Easy Metamagic can make for no extra cost).
