What schools do you intend to drop?

I was thinking Conjuration and Evocation, and using shadow illusion to make up for it. I'll edit that in.

Also, I am tempted to take the Focused Specialist variant, but don't know the next school to drop...

Is there some reason you delayed IotSV until 13th level? I'm not familiar with the Master Spec, but IotSV is very very strong.

Also, I would probably drop Ench and Evo for this character. Conj has teleport, which is nice. If I had to drop another, it'd be Necro probably. It all depends on what you intend to fight. If you're dealing with a lot of stuff that can be charmed, Ench is awesome.

You NEVER want to drop Abjuration, Conjuration, or Transmutation. The other 5 can go.

How about this, I swap out Conjuration for Enchantment as my banned school?

I like taking my PRCs strait through and then moving on, DM's are much more likely to accept your prc craziness if they come in strait shots like that.

gah, dropping both damage dealing schools AND the school that gives you such good transportation, as well as meat-shields, this just seems oooh so very wrong to me. I mean it seems Enchant and Evocation(even though Evocation has so many nifty spells in it) seem the better choice here for dropping.

oooh and as to being a Focused Specialist, rember what it does is give you 2 extra school spells per day and a 3rd in the guise of loseing one of yer general spell slots, so take that into consideration before going that route.

You NEVER want to drop Abjuration, Conjuration, or Transmutation. The other 4 (Evocation, Enchantment, Illusion, and Necromancy) can go.Fixed - you can never drop Divination.

Dropping Abjuration can be pretty painless actually (though obviuosly not for this build).
You just need to be able to get the Cleric to cast them instead.

Fixed - you can never drop Divination.
Not that you'd ever want to, either. Divination has just enough spells at various levels that you simply can't leave home without to make it always a worthwhile keeper.

Also, which schools are droppable depends a lot on what Domains the Cleric takes.

Wizard Drops- Cleric Takes
Abjuration- Protection and/or Inquisition
Conjuration- Travel (Arcane Summoning just isn't that good unless you specialize in it, and the CC/Blasting spells exist elsewhere as well.)
Enchantment- Always Droppable, but helps if Cleric takes Charm, Domination, or something else similar.
Evocation- Always Droppable, but helps (a lot) if Cleric takes Time or Strength, or if any caster takes Craft Contingent Spell.
Illusion- Generally never droppable*
Necromancy- Always Droppable, but helps if Cleric takes Death, Evil, or Undeath.
Transmutation- Absolutely never, ever, EVER droppable.**

* Two domains generally aren't enough to compensate for the incredible versatility offered by this school. Even the Illusion domain falls short of what's most wanted. If you really need another school to drop and can't settle on any other schools, then taking the Reprieve chain of feats in Lost Empires of Faerun to recover this school is practically mandatory.
** Wizards that drop Transmutation throw away so many invaluable spells that it's just not funny. Hell, even without Alter Self/Polymorph/PAO/Shapechange it's a school that all Wizards benefit from having to the point where it's mandatory.

Alright, I like the schools that Ive dropped (Evocation and Enchantment), Conjuration and Shadow Illusions can cover for damage missing from evocation. Enchantment should be relatively easy to ignore as Mindblank + Dispells means your group has a good way to avoid everyone getting dominated.

Now onto feats, any suggestions on these?

Feats

Levels Feats (Flaws: Noncombatant, Murky Eyed)
Lvl01 Spell Focus (Abjuration), Scribe Scroll
Alacritous Cogitation, Heighten Spell,
Silent Spell
Lvl03 Arcane Mastery
Lvl04 Skill Focus (Spellcraft)
Lvl06 Greater Spell Focus (Abjuration),
Spell Focus (Illusion)
Lvl09 Quicken Spell
Lvl12 Still Spell
Lvl15 Metamagic School Focus (Abjuration)
Lvl18 Arcane Thesis (Greater Dispel Magic)
-EPIC-
Lvl21 Epic Spellcasting
Lvl24 Improved Spell Capacity

So if I take the Focused Specialist variant, drop Necromancy, and I'll unban it with the LEoF feats; what feats should I drop?

Requirements:
Feats: Skill Focus (Spellcraft), Spell Focus in two schools of magic. Greater Spell Focus,

How about If I drop:
Metamagic School Focus (Abjuration), Arcane Thesis (Dispel Magic, Greater) and Alacritous Cogitation?

Why would you want Silent Spell?
That's just bizarre on a Wizard.

ehhh PrC requirement, feat chain requirement, ya wanna have a spell or 2 prepped on the off chance you get grappled, or ya wanna pull it off without drawning attention to yourself(works better if it's also silenced but you draw less attention whispering than you do waveing your hands around), it somehow fits the character concept, needless to say the list goes on and on.

not really about this char but:

wouldn't Abjurer3/master specialist10/abjurant champion5/archmage2 be a niftier build(if you are only going to lvl 20 that is)

as you get to do the trick of combining master specialist with the arcane reach thingy to have the ability to put a AMF on a character within 30ft, that really messes up most encounters, as you won't have to worry about magics ever again^^

plus its pretty nice to up your BAB for your (ranged) touchspells, and getting to 3 attacks.
mastery of counterspelling is also nice I've heard, as is having auto extend on you abjurationspells and auto quicken on the abjurationspells up to 3rd lvl... plus the AC bonus should not be scoffed at^^

just my thoughts...

I'll agree with abjurant champion being almost a must for a focused abjurer, being able to cast swift extended abjurations with no adjustment is pretty sweet

thats what I meant...

tho its so so perfect to go abj3/mstr spec10/IotSV7 it's almost sexy, my build is way beyond broken, it ruins the game(YAY!?)... how tough is a red dragon great wyrm without breath or spellike abilities? just saying...

I vote Improved Initiative over Silent or Heighten. Abjurer3/Master Abjurer6/Sevenfold Veil7/Master+4.

Silent and still are in there because I love the idea of a wizard that can do magic with merely a thought.

I don't like Arcane Thesis (Imprisonment) - its quite a high level spell and you've only got so many of those high level spells slots. Especially once you start taking Archmage levels in Epic. Use Arcane Thesis on a spell you're going to cast ALL THE TIME, like Shield or Stoneskin or Greater Dispel Magic.

Do you plan to make heavy use of the Major Esoterica ability? It's really nice, but I'm not sure I wouldn't have something like Wizard 3 / Master Specialist 8 / IotSV 7 / Abjurant Champion 2.

Yes, there are allot of good buffs that you can give your team mates with this. :)

You're totally right... and man, the last two levels of IotSV are great too. But a free Extend and Quicken every round from AbChamp is so good... if only you had 22 levels! :)

Do you really consider it worth the Feats and level bumps to prepare spells like this?

Brilliant though it either requires one of three things; a race that grants a martial weapon pro, a class with MWPs or taking the feat MWP. Really a small matter for what you get so I would probably grab feat for it.

If you really want into abjurant champion without a feat or level adjustment, go gray or sun elf.

it still costs you the feat you could get for being human.

Do you really consider it worth the Feats and level bumps to prepare spells like this?

Consider that, as a standard action I can cast any spell I know using an empty slot with alacritous cogitation.

If I leave a 9th level spell open (and a 10th level spell in epics), I can cast any spell I know in any situation, be I grappled or held or silenced or gagged or bound or etc etc. Handy.

Its even easier for abjuration spells because I can spontaneously apply metamagic school focus to it and get quicken for only +3 or silent/still for free.
