| Atanatotatos12-29-05, 02:58 PM | I was wondering, would it be possible to have a Shadow Hound (MM) as a familiar? It's not on CW with the others new improved familiars, but, if you can have a winterwolf...what could the requirements be? Next,a maybe strange question: it really appeals to me the familiar/animal companion of the Arcane Hyerophant.Would it be possible to obtain that class feature, by feats or other means, not being both arcane and diveine casters? E.g.,a druid would have his wolf companion get familiar advancements too (and vice versa) I know there are threads about super mounts and similar, but that's not what I'm looking for...just a tasty flavorful unique feature (even though I guess it would result in quite a monster of a pet) |

Since the shadow mastiff has an ECL of 7, the prerequisites to obtain a shadow mastiff familiar should be arcane spellcaster level 5th and BAB +5, but, like any deviation from standard game rules, this is subject to your DM's approval.Next,a maybe strange question: it really appeals to me the familiar/animal companion of the Arcane Hyerophant.Would it be possible to obtain that class feature, by feats or other means, not being both arcane and diveine casters? The feat Theurgic Bond, from Dragon mag. #325, allows the caster's animal companion and familiar levels to stack when determining animal companion or familiar benefits (i.e a wizard 5/druid 3 could gain the animal companion of an 8th-level druid). I would, however, recommend taking a short dip into an arcane class, than a bit of mystic theurge and arcane hierophant if you really want this ability. Man, your name is tough to spell. |

| Llochlyn12-30-05, 07:25 AM | I suppose you'd have to use the already existing feat, improved familiar, And figure out what all these number and letters really mean, and work it with your DM... It's quite a powerful creature though, and is large enough to be used as a mount by some characters, so it's equivalent level would be high... instead of BaB 5, I'd rule a caster level 9 or 11... 9 seems more reasonable but I'm not an expert at all |
