is there a thread/threads that shows good ways to really max out twin weapon fighting or fighting with a double weapon? I'm especially interested in lower levels (1-7) so I can make a really scary BBEG to challenge a group I plan to start running in a month.

Figure it might involve ranger (for the free feats) or fighter dips (bonus feats), right?

That early on not may character's will stand out as a TWF build. A few good starts that you could later build on:

rokugan ninja8, full BaB & 4 D6 SA make damage good at such a low level.

half orc paladin 8, with the sub level (races of destiny) for moral bonus to damage instead of smite evil. Combined with divine might you can do nice damage.

fighter6/EWM2, use a double scimitar (eberron). Take focus, specialisation & improved critical.

ranger8, only if your party consists of mainly one race.

When you hit higher levels disciple of dispater (book of vile darkness), dervish & tempest are prcs to go for.

A Ranger 6/Rogue 1 with Improved Initiative + Favored Enemy: the dominant PC race(s) can be pretty effective - kind of like a living cuisinart who can sneak up and ambush the party. With a double sword, he will have 4 attacks at 1d8+1d6+4+Strength each. If he has Str 18, that's an average of 60 damage in a round.

If he's using a Masterwork weapon, his attack rolls are +9/+9/+4/+4, which is not bad for a low-level attacker.

This is a build that can be fun at higher levels to represent gangs of assassins who are hunting the PCs, too.

thanks for the suggestions both of you.

I espeically like that rogue/ranger idea.

Khazra: I dont have a lot of the books your mentioning. I'm pretty much limited to core, the "Complete" series, and FRCS.

Though your right, tempest and/or dervish at high levels would be frightening

OOOh, for an 8th level build along the same lines as DDog:

human fighter2/rogue3/EWM1/fighter3-4
1.EWP double scimitar, weapon focus double scimitar
2. TWF
3. improved initiative
6. ITWF
8. weapon specialisation
weapon stunt=double weapon flurry
str=18

With a +1 keen double scimitar:
+9/+9/+9/+4/+4
Damage:
main-handX3=1D6+4(str)+2D6(SA)+2(WS)+1(enhanc e)=AV.17
off-handX2=1D6+2(str)+2D6(SA)+1(enhance)=AV. 15
The chances are you will recieve atleast 1 crit & having more attacks on the main hand its likely to be one of these resulting in an extra 10 damage/round.
AV damage/round: 91

To really up your damage, you could use a weapon with the collision enhancement.

OOh, found something else for you:
dwarf fighter6/battlesmith1
1. weapon focus warhammer, PA
2. TWF
3.endurance
4. weapon spec. warhammer
6. ITWF, OTWF
With an 16 in str, 18 in wis.
Use 2* warhammers. Damage is 1D8+3(str)+4(wis)+2(specialisation). Not bad for a non SAer early on.
EDIT>ignore 2nd build, posted before book restrictions.

sorry,
OTWF=oversized TWF, lets you use 2X one handed weapons at a reduced penalty & you can PA with both of them.
collison is a +2 enhancement from expanded psionics handbook & it adds +5 to damage.
