now i need an answer,

would you rather have +2 damage per caster level for all cold spells cast from you (works with energy substituion)

or would you rather have +4 natural armor?
Black Mage (found on wizards boards) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=569296) vs Frost Mage (from Frostburn)

Damage - Mages can prevent themselves from being hit without AC - Blink, Blur, etc.

Seconded. Damage is very powerful. As a mage, you shouldn't be hit. And with the extra damage, you won't have to worry about being hit, as you will be able to kill anything(hopefully) before they can get near you.

AC.
The cold spell specialization only works when it's cold. Furthermore, with the Frost Mage, you will be able to cast the broken summon ice critters spells.

Though, overall, Frostmage would be better anyway. That +2 dmg is useless against cold subtypes, unless you are a Frostmage, which means you can still damage them. =)

Frost Mage.

You can get +2 damage per dice with a Control Weather spell later on anyway.
