| Bonzai03-27-06, 09:55 AM | I finally got ToM, and started going through it last night. This PrC caught my eye. Full Babs, decent abilities, and easy requirements. Since Truespeak is a skill and relys on Int, a high Intelligence is a must. Also, by placing a high priority on intelligence at creation, you can get your bonus languages from the get go. So a high int melee PrC? Sounds like a canidate for Swashbuckler to me. A build that is something like Swashbuckler 3/fighter 3/ Acolyte of the Ego 10/ ????? 4. This would give full babs, Reduce MAD issues, and let you focus on Int as the primary stat, with Con and Dex as secondaries. So any ideas on how I should round out the build? |
| ChrisAsmadi03-27-06, 11:13 AM | Fighter 3 is a big no-no. It's almost worthless. :) |
| Bonzai03-27-06, 11:18 AM | I was considering it for the extra feats and full babs, the third lvl so as not to incure multiclass penalties. But I could go Swashbuckler 4/fighter 2 instead. That would then necessitate being human, or some other race with fighter as a favored class. I was kind of thinking of going Elf, and using a Thinblade for weapon finessable 1d8. RP wise it could be kinda fun being a self absorbed Sun Elf, who is constantly contemplating the glory of his own name. lol. Aside from flavor, Elf would also give an extra starting language, and an Int bonus. |
| Tyco311003-27-06, 11:21 AM | how about Ranger 3, you get a favoured enemy, combat style, track and Endurance |
| Llochlyn03-27-06, 11:31 AM | I support ranger 3, because Int to damage can become interresting in a TWF build if you add some more bonus damage... though, fighter 2/swashbuckler 3 will not give you any penalty... If you need +6 BaB to enter acolyte of the ego, that's different... There are some PrC that need only +5BAB and give full BAB... I can only think of Impure Prince and Revenant blade right now... Too bad the double scimitar isn't finessable... |

| Bonzai03-27-06, 11:53 AM | Babs isn't a requirement. Only a Truespeak rank of 9, and knowing 4 languages. I've been focusing on Babs, only because the PrC gives full babs and I was hoping to keep it max'ed with the build. There is a feat that makes True Speak a class skill, so that would solve the issue, and let you get it by lvl 6. Knowing 4 languages is simple, especially as Int will be your primary focus. For those that haven't seen the PrC yet, Acolyte of the Ego is a 10 lvl, full BAB PrC. You know your own True name, and through that you get up to 5 special abilities, like fast healing, disguise self, dimensional door, improved strength, a sonic blast, and a few others. You also get a few other percs thrown in. The way Truename magic works, is that it is a skill check. The check succeeds, and the effect goes through. Each time you use the effect, the difficulty rating goes up for that day. So as long as you can make the skill check, you can use the ability. Thats why a high Int is important. I could go Swashbuckler 6 if I wanted, but I was just trying to grab a few feats by dipping into fighter. Ranger is a possibility. It wasn't the flavor I was looking for, but then again this is the optimization boards. Could go twf route with a thin blade and dagger. Since I am going Swashbuckler for sure, I want to keep with weapons that are finessable. Thanks for the suggestions. Any Ideas on where to go after I finish out the PrC? |
| Kresalak03-27-06, 12:31 PM | If you REALLY want to focus on Int, the following dips and feats will help with that. Monk 1+Carmendine Monk or Kung Fu Genious gives Int to AC. Initiate of Faerie Mysteries replaces Con for HP, allowing you to ignore that a bit more. X stat to Y bonus (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=320889) gives the rest. |
