| oberon0001-28-07, 11:45 PM | OK, folks. I am currently playing in a Forgotten Realms campaign and have gone with a Favoured Soul with the aim of Divine Crusader when I qualify. The character serves as a backup melee when necessary, with the added bonus of some divine spellcasting ability. Currently I am a Human Favoured Soul (Tempus)2/Fighter1. I am aiming to go another level of Fighter, before returning to Favoured Soul, until I qualify for Divine Crusader. Currently have Toughness, Power Attack, Improved Iniative, Improved Grapple, Jotunbrud (Regional). NB each character in the game was given a free regional feat, so we have one more feat than normal. I chose the Improved Grapple at 3rd to maximise the advantage provided by Jotunbrud, and it has already paid off handsomely. The remainder of the party are Aasimar Knight2, Drow Druid2, Genasi Scout2, Human Warlock3, and Halfling Sorcerer3. As you can see, light on the melee and divine magic. Any suggestions on how this build should be progressed? Or are there better options than the ones I've outlined? Thx in advance for any advice oberon |

It is one of my favorite classes but not for what your posing.... none the less, i guess there is very little ways you can make this any worse so. Fighter 2/Favored Soul 2/Paladin 4/Divine Champion 5/Divine Crusader 8, for the Divine Grace ability I guess and some high lv spells. Seriously though, Favored Souls work best if 1.) You play them with whatever variant option from whatever books offer them one or two. (Dragon Magic, and Player Handbook 2 each have a variant Favored Soul option. With the Former being particularly worthwhile when played straight.) or if you find feats that allow you to qualfy for other prestige classes that improve spellcasting, like Wind Walker. Honestly, consider asking your DM to let you retrain your character, I can understand if you have a high investment in Charisma and still want that to be a good focus for your character, so prehapes Knight 7/Divine Champion 5/Divine Crusader 8 |

NB was after something to act as a backup fighter, with some access to divine magic, in order to complement the deficiencies in the party makeup. A Paladin is out of the question, due to alignment. This is actually the second character, as the DM allowed me to change. Playing a LG monk in a N (all flavours) party was causing significant party conflict. A Paladin would suffer the same issue. Was considering simply going Fighter/Cleric, but chose FS for something a little different. oberon |

| Kurama Youko01-29-07, 08:15 AM | Well, if you just want some divine spellcasting to help out in combat or things of that nature. Prehapes looking at a few prestige classes that offer a small numbers of spells perday/spell levels. You know like the Pious Templar. Something like Knight 5/Pious Templar of Tempus 10/ would work. |
| carnivore01-29-07, 11:16 AM | try this: Favored Soul 8/ Sacred Exorcist 1/Knight of the Raven 10/ Contemplative 1 works quite well....get 2 domains: Sun...bonus from Knight of the raven bonus from Contemplative BAB= +16.......great combat abilities without using any spells Turn Undead = 9 levels of effecitve Cleric without any items(much higher with items) :D |
| Kurama Youko01-30-07, 10:44 AM | Isnt Knight of the Raven a Dragon Lance PrC? |
| ChristopherGroves01-30-07, 10:45 AM | Ravenloft I think. |
| carnivore01-30-07, 11:32 AM | correct..Ravenloft...notice: The Knight of the Raven +10 BAB; 9/10 divine spellcasting Grants turn undead (no turn undead requirement though...great for Favored Souls). Turning takes a -2 level hit though (IE, Cleric Level - 2) Raven "familiar" that provokes no AoO and can distract and disable opponents. Can also deliver spells via channel spell...very nice. Gains two feats to fight off negative levels. Gains sun domain Big boosts to light spells Ability to make a turn undead check. Maximum number of HD effected from the Turn check can, instead, be used to remove negative levels in a 30' burst. This is crazy good. My overall impression with the class is that it is the Fist of Raziel +1. You get a "perfect" BAB, near perfect spellcasting, and very impressive class features. This class, coupled with some of the following, is nearly unbeatable. Possibly one of the best PrCs ever written both mechanically, thematically and for shear power. :D |
