Creating a character for an 'all warforged' campaign, and since we have a tank in the guise of a paladin. I was thinking of going ranged (which I haven't played in ages). Looking at the Player's Handbook II, the feat Crossbow Sniper got me thinking of playing a crossbow specialist. Been toying with the build in my head, trying to nail it down. Wanted some feedback and CO tips. Specifically on feat allocation.

Books allowed: Core, PHBII, all Eberron, Complete series, and the DM has agreed to let me use Deepwood Sniper out of Masters of the Wild

Stats (4d6 drop low random roll, best set I've had in probably two years)
Adjusted for Warforged
Str 15
Dex 18
Con 18
Int 16
Wis 11
Cha 10

1 Fighter 1: Mythril Body, Point Blank Shot.
2 Ftr 2: Rapid Reload.
3 Ftr 3: Rapid Shot
4 Ftr 4: Weapon Focus: Light Crossbow
6 Ftr 6: Far Shot, Crossbow Sniper.
7 Deepwood Sniper 1
9 DWS 3: Weapon Spec: LCB
12 DWS 5: Ranged Weapon Mastery
15 DWS 9: Penetrating shot.
16 DWS 10
18 Ftr 8 Mythril Fluidity, Precise Shot
20 Ftr 10 (open feat)

By the end of this progression with the neat bonuses from Deepwood Sniper my light crossbow would be shooting for 1d8+half dex mod +2(spec)+2(mastery) 17-20 X4. Which if paired with an burst enchantment would be doing a grevious extra 3d10 on a crit. Not to mention spiffy things like being able to reroll a few misses per day, True Strike once a day, and increased range.

Problems: AC wont be what it could be as my dex mod will be much higher than +5 meaning I'll be hitting my max dex by at least level 8 but not getting any AC boost after I push past it. Having to wait till 18 for Precise shot... but I think all the bonuses I'll have on my attack rolls wont make it much of a problem.

Considered going into something other than fighter after DWS, but there are no other good Crossbow PrCs I know of. Scout maybe for the extra movement and skirmish, but it wouldnt' be much... and I'm already feat hungry.

Would your dm allow you to use the warforged compnent the "armbow" instead of this light crossbow?

I dont know if it counts a sa crossbow or not.. but the fact that you never need to reload makes it a pretty sweet deal.

Something else to consider from an optimization standpoint are two feats that can be found in the psionic section of the srd:

Wild Talent [General]
Your mind wakes to a previously unrealized talent for psionics.
Benefit

Your latent power of psionics flares to life, conferring upon you the designation of a psionic character. As a psionic character, you gain a reserve of 2 power points and can take psionic feats, metapsionic feats, and psionic item creation feats. You do not, however, gain the ability to manifest powers simply by virtue of having this feat.

and

Psionic Shot [Psionic]

You can charge your ranged attacks with additional damage potential.
Prerequisite

Point Blank Shot.
Benefit

To use this feat, you must expend your psionic focus. Your ranged attack deals +2d6 points of damage. You must decide whether or not to use this feat prior to making an attack. If your attack misses, you still expend your psionic focus.

Perhaps you could go for psi-gorged body instead of mithrill.. i think the psionic shot option is just to good to pass up for a "sniper" character. Take the extra time to line up your shot [psionic focus] then nail the target where it hurts[ sneak attack+psionic shot+x-bow sniper] It may be a bit to far from the build idea you have thus far... but perhaps you could take a few levels of physcic warrior after fighter to qualify for the psionic shot feat and some combat boosting powers?

I know very little about psionics, but i do know that any extra damage dice you can stack onto a ranged attack are worth it.

just my two cents
