Advice on building a concept - Kobold Prophet [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've recently found myself with an idea for an NPC in the game that I run: a Kobold Prophet who is trying to pull his brethren out of the slime pits and into an independant civilization with acutal culture and class. He'd be chosen, and basically trained and reared personally by a new deity looking to take care of the much blighted beasts; but the prophet would still be mortal (sub-epic) himself.

The Prophet template I'm working with (from the Immortal's Handbook) is either a LA of +10, if you also give him equipment for a character ten levels higher, or +6, if you leave his equipment at the level of his HD. The template can only be applied to a character with at least 10 HD. Since my target ECL is 20, that means either 10 or 14 HD, depending on equipment.

Because it's a Kobold, and because the Prophet template grants a deflection bonus to AC based on Charisma, I want there to be Sorcerer levels involved, or at least Sorcerer themed, and preferably with Cha as the primary stat... but because I'm dealing with the chosen of a god here, I was also thinking that cleric levels would be in order. As such, I tried statting up my very first Mystic Theurge... and discovered, as I'm sure that most of you know, that they really do suck. My ECL 20 Kobold would be able to cast 5th level spells tops.

Any thoughts on salvaging the concept? I want a Kobold-themed caster with full spellcasting up to 14th level with a focus on charisma, and some sort of divine tie beyond just the prophet template I'm using. Ideas?

The Immortal Handbook isn't an official D&D or Wizards of the Coast product so I doubt you're going to find many people who are familiar with it. I know that I'm not.

It would be helpful if we knew how this template opperated, and how much influence this handbook will have on the other characters and setting of the campaign.

Generally speaking? No offense, but a +10 LA template is probably something that is worthless to a player character or completely gamebreaking. This can be especially true of a 3rd party creation.

How I'd make a Kobold Prophet is pretty simple . . . I'd make a regular Kobold Sorcerer, give him the Dragon Prophet feat and Prestige Class from Magic of Eberron, and probably also grab the Draconic Rites of Passage listed in Races of the Dragon and on this website. I might take Dragonwrought Kobold, but feats are precious and Dragon Prophet eventually makes you ageless anyway.

Another potentially interesting build for this might involve using a Kobold Bard/Sublime Cord/DracoLexi with the Dragon Song feat from Draconomicon, just for flavor. Thus you have a kobold who derives great power and meaning from the draconic language and its history.
