| Gadren01-13-06, 03:38 AM | Hey, I'm playiong a character who is a 2 ranger/4 monk multiclassing into Kensai next level. My weapon focus is unarmed. I know my only option next level will be to get +1 unarmed, but after that I plan to just get special abilities and let the party druid greater magic fang me. Question is, what weapon special abilities (as allowed out of the DMG and Complete series) are the best route? Here's the build I was thinking: 1st: +1 2nd: - 3rd: Wounding 4th: Shocking 5th: - 6th: Disruption 7th: Frost 8th: Ghost Touch 9th: Flaming 10th Spell Storing |

| Todd01-13-06, 11:50 AM | What is spell storing buying your guy? I think that Magebane (+2, Complete Arcane) would probably make my list. Loads of creatures are either spellcasters or have SLAs. This is good against them all. I love Speed (+3, DMG) ... extra attacks are always good. |
| PhoenixInferno01-13-06, 12:00 PM | Holy/Unholy are usually good. A very good case can be made for Impact (Arms & Equipment Guide) - its simply Keen for Bludgeoning weapons. |
| PhaedrusXY01-13-06, 12:53 PM | I love Speed (+3, DMG) ... extra attacks are always good.Just buy the boots, and save your +3 for something else. I agree that Magebane is too good not to take, if the DM doesn't ban it (I would). I also second the Holy (or Unholy) suggestion. |
| Todd01-13-06, 01:41 PM | I like speed better than the boots for several reasons. First, if you put it on boths fists & go TWF, then you are getting two extra attacks instead of one. Secondly, I don't like the way the boots take an action to activate & is limited use. The enhancement is on all the time. I also hate it when dispel magic takes out a limited use buff like that ... worst case with the enhancment is that it's briefly supressed. |
| PhaedrusXY01-13-06, 01:56 PM | It is a free action to use the boots, and I think most people don't let you get two attacks if you're using two different weapons of speed. The Speed enhancement specifically says it doesn't stack with other similiar things that grant extra attacks, like Haste. I've argued both sides of it myself, but as of right now I think that they shouldn't stack. |
| Todd01-13-06, 02:26 PM | Just to be clear ... I was stating one extra attack with the main hand and one extra attack with the off hand ... IMO it's not stacking. Each hand gets a single bonus attack. Still YMMV by DM. |

What is spell storing buying your guy? I think that Magebane (+2, Complete Arcane) would probably make my list. Loads of creatures are either spellcasters or have SLAs. This is good against them all. I love Speed (+3, DMG) ... extra attacks are always good. Spell Storing allows me to store one spell of up to third level to release with an unarmed attack at the right time. A nice surprise when fighting a particularly toughy, like blindness or touch of idiocy. Magebane is a good suggestion. Speed really isn't worth it for +3. There are other ways to get haste. Holy/Unholy are usually good. A very good case can be made for Impact (Arms & Equipment Guide) - its simply Keen for Bludgeoning weapons. Normally I would go for holy, but in this game we are Neutral and fighting non-evil as frequently as evils. Like I said, I can't take things from A&E I like speed better than the boots for several reasons. First, if you put it on boths fists & go TWF, then you are getting two extra attacks instead of one. I also hate it when dispel magic takes out a limited use buff like that ... worst case with the enhancment is that it's briefly supressed. I'm TWF, but haste does not grant two extra attacks, even if they are with seperate hands. Even if your DM allows it, mine won't, and I agree with him. |

Each hand gets a single bonus attack. Still YMMV by DM.I know exactly what you're saying. It is still stacking. You are basically getting the (partial) benefits of a Haste spell... twice. The only decent argument to the contrary (IMO) is using the chain double weapon in the Epic Level Handbook as an example of a weapon which has Speed on each end, but people counter that that is an epic weapon, and also could just be a mistake, etc, etc. This has been debated many times. I used to agree with you, but now I don't. |
| Gadren01-13-06, 03:24 PM | Someone posted but then removed a comment about how disruption isnt worth it because it only has a save of 14. It should be noted though that I'm building this char to get as many attacks per round as possible, so since it works with every hit, even a lich has a good chance of rolling a 1 and being destroyed. |
