Never played 3.5 before even though I have all the books on my shelves and have read them so some advice would be appreciated as to what direction to build my next character. The DM has already dropped the hint that it will be essentially city based, including forays under the city itself. We will start at 1st and end at 20th (theoretically!). The city is massively human o centric with small numbers of demi humans so Champion of Corellon Larethian type PrC's may be unsuitable as there aren't that many demihumans to protect (I suspect a good background might remedy that!). The only human gods will be Pelor, Wee Jas, Kord and St. Cuthbert. No evil characters. We already have a bard in the party but our other 4 slots (including me) are free atm. Current books useable are: PHB; DMG; Race and Complete Books. Background: Greyhawk. I'm fairly lost for choice here as anything city based is basically ok. Kid in candystore syndrome! The DM frowns upon excessive multiclassing, and is rightly suspicious about my 3.0 builds ever since my shifter and his 22 page list of pre-stated creatures which updated automatically every time I levelled, but I should be ok as long as I'm not 1-2 level dipping which I can live with. Really looking for what builds people have particularly enjoyed playing and that I could reverse engineer into Greyhawk. Whether its Rogue 1/Paladin 4/Chameleon 7/Shadowbane Inquisitor 8 or straight Warlock 20. I prefer the exotic action orientated characters to the negotiation type but am happy with support characters. |

Say take a few levels of ranger (see ifyou can use the urban equivelant for ranger), take the city feats (city slicker, crowd tactics, etc.) and urban tracking, you could then multi into anything from here... you could be a bounty hunter by adding Bloodhound or Justicar, just because something is city themed, which is something I actually want to run myself in greyhawk, which makes me wonder if you're one of my players =P, doesn't mean you are limited, in fact I think the possiblities are limitless. you could be a Swashbuckler/Dread Pirate who lost his boat and is trying to fund a new one. You could be a bounty hunter as stated above. church inquisitors are neat, but I think the in the long run get boring and turn into smite smite smite But that's just me Why not be a lil exotic, play a half orc fighter/kensai/exotic weapon spec. and play him as an ex bar bouncer who found a new "patron" to work for. He uses a unique weapon, something no one really uses, a mancatcher or something, and follows his employers wishes. I've always liked the idea of an urban ranger, and I think that there are subsititution levels for ranger in the RAces of Destiny book as well as an urban ranger... not sure in there or in another book... Good luck, I'm curious as to what you go with. |
