Hi,

So here's the setup

LA +1 for free

Character A
Goliath Paladin 1/Favored Soul 1
(rolled)
Str 22
Dex 12
Con 16
Int 14
Wis 14
Cha 18

Character B
Catfolk Rogue 1/Sorceror 1
Str 14
Dex 22
Con 15
Int 16
Wis 13
Cha 20

Any suggestions for alternate races/classes? We want a Fighter/Healer and a skillmonkey/arcane caster.

I was thinking about Warmage but I think that it doesn't provide enough versatility let me know what you think could be done here. We need all the party roles filled by two people.

Do the classes have to be joined in that way? Does the fighter also have to be the healer, or could we have a Fighter/Skill-monkey and a Healer/Arcane?

No they don't have to be set up that way, we just decided that that would be optimal to avoid ASF, since unarmored rogues or lightly armored mages aren't completely unacceptable.

I think tactically it's a pretty darn big mistake. What happens when your meatshield needs to heal himself and he needs to completely stops hurting the enemy? What happens when your skillmonkey is scouting ahead but rolls low and suddenly he's the one on the front lines having to melee it out? In terms of tactics I can't see it meshing well, and I see it easier coming up with an unusual but effective build than trying to correct these flaws.

Your tank could take levels in Dread Commando to get reduced penalties in heavy armor, that would help a lot. The Rogue could use levels in Nightsong Infiltrator to give teamwork bonuses.

This is a very good point. The rogue will be supplementing with cure wounds wands though, and we should be pretty tough. I'd really like to be able to take on adventures for 4 people at the level that they're designed to be tackled. This might be an impossible goal for the gestalt system but I'm hoping that with some smart playing we should be able to work through them.

Having the frontliner and the skill monkey be the same person also creates a problem as far as scouting and leaving the caster unprotected as well as Armor check penalties... In addition ASf for the cleric/caster could be a problem. As it stands I'm thinking that the Sorc/Rogue will take levels of fighter and Spellsword (maintaining a full 20th level Spell casting progression).

One thing that I'm worried about is the Fort save and trying to pick classes to keep my BAB up as I level. The campaign allows for double PRCs meaning that you can take a level of blackguard and illithid slayer (for instance) at the same time.
