I am looking for a little input on the following character. I'll try to include as much detail as possible.

The character is question is the cohort to my primary character: Wally Tosscobble - Halfling Sorcerer extraordinare! Wally's a high charisma bundle of energy. He follows Boccob and knows he's the greatest thing around. He just hit 6th level and I took the Leadership feat. With his charisma, his Leadership score qualifies him for a 4th level Cohort. He's spent quite a bit of time with a temple of Boccob populated primarily with Elves. As a result of a recent prophecy, the Clerics of Boccob know that Wally is going to make an amazing magical discovery at some point in his life. Therefore, an acolyte has been assigned to 'accompany' him, takes notes on his adventures and record the discovery. Also as result, Wally will be leveling up in Ruanthar for the next few levels (finally a PrC that actually works for Sorcerers).

I figured it would be nice to let Wally have his own personal apothecary. But also having a cohort that could scribe some scrolls for Wally to use also seemed fun. So... Mystic Theurge. Both worlds in one package. Plus, since it's not a primary PC, I figured some of the weaknesses of the PrC might not seem so troublesome.

A word on sources and house rules. We use 28 point buy for stats. All core books are okay automatically. Other WotC sources must be pre-approved a couple of levels ahead of where you want to bring them in. (And yes, I got pre-approval for the Ruanthar by the time Wally hit 3rd level and just got approval for the Archivist.) Other sources probably would not be looked on favorably. (DM hasn't allowed one yet, so...)

Here is what I have to this point...

Elf Archivist 3 / Wizard 1 (plan on two more levels of Wizard and then Mystic Theurge)
STR 8 (these stats include racial modifiers for being and Elf &
DEX 11 the +1 at 4th level)
CON 12
INT 18
WIS 14
CHA 10

I plan on keeping the following skills pretty near maxed out: Concentration, K: Religion, K: Arcana, & Spellcraft. Other skill points get spread out amongst the following skills: Decipher Script, misc. Knowledge, & Sense Motive.

I need suggestions on the two feats he currently has. Also, ideas on what spells would be most effective would helping. Finally, any thoughts on how to minimize his complete inadequacy at combat would be nice.

The plan is to take two more levels of Wizard before going Mystic Theurge until I finish out that Prc (unless there is a better plan someone would like to point out?) and then go back to Archivist.

Other comments are welcome as well.

Sorry but... Why you think that Ruanthar is that great for sorcerers?
It seem not that good to me...

Ruathar is good for sorcerers because it has a better skill list, more skill points, more HP, and requires no wasted skills or feats!

As above, plus it's full casting.

It giveth, yet it doesn't taketh away.

Sure other classes may giveth more, but they require higher pre-requisites. Its opportunity cost, sometimes its worth it, sometimes not.

Adding to dex at level 4 is highly questionable. I'd put that point in int. Practiced spellcaster at least once and maybe twice for feats.

Formatting betrayed me on that DEX thing. I did put the +1 at 4th level into INT (it had been 17 prior).

Quick question on that Practiced Spellcaster feat. As I read it, that allows me to cast the spells I could cast anyway, just with higher caster level. Said anoter way, it gives no additional spells or spells per day, right? It allows me to cast the few spells known at maximum effectiveness.

And to back up the other posts, Ruanthar is in every way better than straight Sorcerer. Pick an area of character improvement/advancement. Ruanthar is at least as good as Sorcerer and probably better. That PrC helped me convince my play group that Sorcerer is weak compared to the other base classes. (I lobbied for an alternative Sorcerer class [found somewhere here on the Wizards Community] that gives Sorcerers metamagic feats at the same rate that the Wizard gets item creation feats - no luck.)

That's right.

What I mean is that there are a lot of more powerfull PrC for a sorcerer...

Yes, Ruothar is better then pure sorcerer, but this is right for almost every full spellcasting arcane PrC...

Almost... every other full spellcasting class has to give up something to gain levels in Ruanthar. Clerics give up Cleric level for turning undead. Wizards delay getting a bonus feat. The others are the same way. Sorcerer is the only one that gets no bonus feats for going up levels or has some class ability that is based upon class level.
