| darkwave09-09-04, 02:41 PM | Well the forum DID say it was for character optimization…. What I am looking for is maximized for building/construction at 20th level. When I say building, I mean, he’ll walk out into the “blasted lands” and practically build a whole new city – no help other than maybe transport to the coast. Greenhouses are known about in this world (but you have to add a few spells to get it to work). Rainfall isn’t a problem, but soil quality is (hey, it is the BLASTED LANDS he is doing this in…) for this city. There is no upper limit for the size of the city (there are millions of refugees that need somewhere to live), so the faster he can build the better. Actually it doesn't even have to be a single city that he builds - he just has to build a LOT. The rule system has to be from either the Players Handbook or the new 3.5 Psionics book. (Rules from outside that would have to be debated on being allowed). Anyway, this character is going to devote his life to building there, so I need help/others thoughts on how to direct the character. (BTW – you get yanked off the world if you hit 21st level so he doesn’t want to do that). |
| Blade271809-09-04, 02:51 PM | A Dwarf expert/Bard with Leadership (a Wizard cohort) could do wonders. Lyre of building and arcane spells will help keep costs down. Expert levels are for picking and choosing construction related skills, and Bard is to inspire competence in your crew and for the aformentioned lyre. |
| Tsuyoshi50009-09-04, 03:27 PM | I remember a time when I had a character with plans for setting up a construction company by hiring several bards with lyres of building... I mean, the wages of a dozen bards and the expense of a dozen lyres are insignificant when you realize you could charge half price for a 1 mil GP castle and be 400 thousand GP richer in the end... And for a dozen bards, that would probably only take a couple of months... of course, you'd have to hire good counter-assassins to stop the other construction companies from killing off your crew. Anyway, Lyre of Building is definately the way to go. |

| mean_liar09-09-04, 04:52 PM | Things to bring into the Blasted Lands... Leadership w/ Bard cohorts several Lyres of Building Profession (Construction) Profession (Architect) Knowledge (Engineering) |

| darkwave09-09-04, 06:40 PM | *Cough, cough* He'll have to be alone however. I guess I should have stressed that. No one else will go there due to the spell that made the blasted lands in the first place (like a stay away geas). The one character is immune due to being the child of one of those responsible for the spell. Shoot, he can't even teleport in or summon creatures there. In fact until the place grows certain seeds (which I'm guessing will require the greenhouse I mentioned) no one ELSE can live there either, and teleportation/summoning is still out after that (teleporting IN the blasted lands to another place IN the Blasted lands is allowed) until one of the other 2 children (who are NPCs) go there, or quite a few children are born there. (I'm guessing 1 kid lifts the Summoning and the other Teleport, but the game hasn't even started yet so who knows :D ). The Lyre of Building is a good thing, but it is just ONE thing. I'm more looking for what's needed for someone who is DEVOTING THEIR LIFE to doing this. I mean a Lvl 17 Wizard, Lvl 3 Bard handles the Lyre (can build the lyre and then play it afterwards). But what ELSE should the character do to maximize. (The words in bold are being stressed, not shouted.) I had a few things listed as objectives, but I was looking to others to bring the "uberbuilding" capability to a towering height. :D |
| SpiritGlyph09-09-04, 07:23 PM | Thanks to UMD, you can use one of those Lyres of Building without needing any Bard levels, so get your skill in that up that, while the necessity of Craft skills goes without saying. You'll almost certain need some way to get raw materials, and as you won't be wanting to haul all the construction materials to the Blasted Lands yourself, I'd suggest either the cheesy Heir of Syberis or the cheesier Dweomerkeeper for XP-free True Creations. Try a Cleric of Gond/Dweomerkeeper: You'll get skill-friendly domains, access to Wieldskill, and the ability to throw out Miracles without any experience cost. |
| RadicalTaoist09-09-04, 07:33 PM | What's the Psion Build that allows Use Psionic Device (same as UMD) as a class skill? |
