| ff6shadow02-07-05, 08:25 AM | I'm getting ready to join a new campaign, and I was wondering what sort of builds you might advise me to use. Ordinarily, I would develop an idea and manage to mess it up well enough to not be too broken. However, my DM has issued massive restictions on available books, so I figure that I'll form the most brutal thing I can and completely drive him insane. We are allowed to use the following: Core 3.5 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Oriental Adventures Sword and Fist An unusual set of books to use I know. I'm not to picky about playing anything in particular, but I'm curious what you might suggest building with these books. The only thing I refuse to use is anything involving Iajutsu Focus. What might you suggest? Forgot to mention, this will be heading into the underdark really early on, playing in the forgotten realms. Vision will be provided for, however. |

Find out if your DM uses the Errata about the Ninja of the Crescent Moon from S&F. If not use this (pre-errata)broken PrC. The best way to get into it is probably Monk4/Rogue4 for you, but maybe someone else can come up with a better idea. Be sure to get Unbalancing strike and/or Freezing the Lifeblood to make use of your sneak attack. 3. If he uses that Errata be sure to complain about it loud and clear and play a sorcerer6/Incantatrix10/XX4 and blast his Monsters to hell. greets lonewolf PS: dont take everything i wrote too serious. ;) |
| ff6shadow02-07-05, 09:05 AM | He's not using the errata. He said explicitly, use whats in the books. I'll have to take a look at the Ninja. And I'll be more explicit with my topic title names as well. Anybody have any other ideas? |
| Tempest Stormwind02-07-05, 09:43 AM | Ninja trumps ALL. Full base attack, three good saves, +5d6 sneak attack and a ton of great stealth and movement capabilities, great skills, AND a few abilities overlapping with your monk levels? (Errata nerfed a good chunk of that) A HUGE amount of Sword and Fist is broken-wrong, both before and after errata. Look at Flying Kick, Knock-down, and the Mercurial Greatsword as well. If you want to add in some extra ninja goodies, there's a Ninja Spy PrC in OA. Some of its goodies include Acrobatics+10/20 (bonus and skill mastery in Balance/climb/jump/tumble), Hide in Plain Sight, Water Walk (note how it doesn't say how often it can be used, only how long it lasts), a small sneak attack progression, and -- at level 7 -- Alter Self at will, which is amazing if you twink it right (I've seen Alter Self give people racial sneak attack before. I just forget how it's done). Whether it's worth giving up that many levels of Crescent Moon, I don't know. I'd still suggest a pure Rogue or mostly-rogue progression going into this. Monk can help out a bit, but early monk isn't too hot, and you get some of the big draws for monk by getting crescent moon levels at level 8. |
| ff6shadow02-07-05, 10:13 AM | That ninja spy looks fun as well, I'll have to check it out.. I checked the Ninja of the Crescent Moon and I hate myself. How could I never see that before? I've been passing by such a great up opportunity. |
| lonewolf02-07-05, 10:20 AM | Monk 2 is almost a must for the prefix to Ninja of the Crescent Moon. You get 2 prerequesite Feats as bonus feats and you dont lose any BAB if you take 2 more levels. And since you dont want to delay the access to Ninja any longer you dont want the 5th lvl of Rogue since you lose another BAB there. So Monk4/Rogue4 seems very natural for me. |
