Advise requested for cleric/divine oracle/contemplative [Archive] - Wizards Community

I wanted to create a cleric who minimizes his weapon use and maximizes his spell use and knowledge. Something like the ultimate wise guy.

The plan I had was going cleric 5/divine oracle 5/contemplative 10 in that order.

I have still to roll stats, but I was aiming for an very high wisdom, decent dexterity and a good charisma.

Race is going to be human.

I want him to be more a kind of talker and will try to actively avoid fights untill I have to.

Feats crossing my mind are:
Improved Initiative
Divine Metamagic
Divine spellpower (hence the high charisma).

Also, i was planning to dont use a full plate, but a (mithral) breast plate or a chainshirt.

Domains I am aiming for:
Celerity (+10 ft movement)
Mysticism (just fits him)
Planning (might go well to)
(yet unknown fourth option)
Oracle (get that form the divine oracle)

I am afraid that this character will be awfull in combat (im trying to avoid it, but i expect OoC that I will get there), therefore I want some advise:

Is human the optimal race for this theme?
How to place my ability scores?
Anyone have feat suggestions?
Are there any alternate classes i should consider?
Is it wise to pick a monk level (I think this wil very well fit in the character concept, let the monk AC replace the armor, but ill loose spell power).
Should i consider touch/ranged spell specilazations?

any other advise also welcome.

I will start as a lvl 2 character.

Divine Metamagic has been erattaed to require a specific metamagic to be applied to.

10-11-06, 02:25 PM Archivist from Heroes of horror and Cloistered cleric variant from Unearthed arcana might be good alternatives to a normal Cleric, if allowed.

Don't take Monk, it hurts too much. As it stands, the Monk's belt gives you wisdom to AC, ask your DM and use it instead. Even if he doesn't allow it, a breastplate and an animated shield + Magic vestment for both will give you a good AC.
