a twist on my submission to the flavorful binder thread
Male Azurin
Binder 1 Shape Soulmeld (Mauling Gauntlets) Cerulean Reflexes
Binder 2
Binder 3 Weapon Focus (Unarmed)
Binder 4 Favored Vestige (Ronove)
Binder 5
Binder 6 Open Least Chakra (Hands)
Knight of the Sacred Seal 1
Knight of the Sacred Seal 2
Knight of the Sacred Seal 3 Sacred Vow
Knight of the Sacred Seal 4
Knight of the Sacred Seal 5
Binder 7 Bonus Essentia
Binder 8
Binder 9 Vow of Poverty
Binder 10
Binder 11 Skilled Pact Making Nimbus of Light
Binder 12
Binder 13 Improved Binding Vow of Abstinence
Binder 14
Binder 15 Vow of Obedience

Here's the Anti-Monk, capable of dishing out the same amount of damage as a monk of one level higher(two if you choose a secondary bind as Ipos, but I prefer a Ronove/Naberius/Paimon/Buer bind combination) also having Mauling Gauntlets on top of VOP bonuses to attack and damage makes for a really nasty punch

You should include Superior Unarmed Strike from the Tome of Battle, which will up your unarmed damage impressively.

What other soulmelds will you bind? What's the full build? This seems very bare bones . . .

um, he's incabable of other soulbinds as he'd the Binder from Tome of Magic, not from Magic of Incarnum, Roanove gives you a monk's unarmed damage, so I wouldn't say that superior unarmed strike would significantly up damage, also I did provide a suggested 4 vestige bind

What if you were wearing a Monk's Belt?

Vow of Poverty precludes using a Monk's belt and a monk's belt like superior unarmed strike is only a single die increase and after level 16 starts dying off as the epic monk's damage doesn't increase

That's a good build. I find that savnok and ronove are a fun/surprising combo, also.

No he's not incapable of binding other binds. ALL Binders (including Knights of the Sacred Seal) have the ability to bind multiple vestiges at once. Superior Unarmed Strike lets you count as a monk 5 levels higher, so yes, it would increase the damage early on. Ultimately, however, it wouldn't give you any more dice once you hit 20th. Improved Natural Attack would let you deal more damage, though.

Actually Superior Unarmed Strike would not let him deal damage as a monk of 4 levels higher, as he is not a monk at all. Re-read the feat.

Its a nice build! I don't like using VoP, personally, but it is inspiring me to copy the flavor w/ some ToB feats (not superior unarmed strike, though)... I've got to spend some time thinking about it.

Binder 6 Open Least Chakra (Hands)

I see this trick used quite frequently to get an extra bound soulmeld. Does it really work by RAW? The wording is not really very clear on this point, but it seems to me that two things are needed in order to bind a soulmeld to a particular chakra point:

1) That chakra point must be "open"
2) The character must have the ability to bind a soulmeld to one or more open chakra points.

Open Least Chakra (Hands) clearly satisfies condition 1, but I don't think it satisfies condition 2. I was under the impression that it was only usefull to characters who multiclass away from a soulbinder class before they get a particular chakra open as a class feature. I'm away from book at moment, but I don't think that it says in the wording of the feat that you also gain the ability to bind a soulmeld if you don't allready have it. If it also allows an extra bind then it is a much nicer feat than I thought.

So was there a FAQ ruling on this that I missed or something? Or am I just reading this incorrectly? (Or is everybody else reading it incorrectly?)

here's the thing, being limited to a specified number of chakra binds is a class feature of the meldshapers, not of soulmelds and chakras in general. also in the text of the feat in question in the first paragraph: You can now bind a soulmeld or magic item to that chakra

I believe you mean "ascetic." "Aesthetic" means "appreciative of beauty."

I was thinking about switching the 5 exalted feats w/ Martial Study: one of the throwing maneuvers (trip attack + mauling guantlets is pretty wicked), Improved Binding, and a combination of Martial Stance, double chakra, or open (some other) chakra. 2 levels of Totemist would get access to a whole bunch of soulmelds, and the totem chakra, and since it would have Improved Binding it won't matter so much that it doesn't go full binding. I just can't figure out what would be the best combination yet. I think this build would play out a lot friendlier throughout the full 20 level progression, too (Imp Binding early on is good). Regardless, you shouldn't take Vow of Poverty until the very last levels possible: you use all your money to buy +5 stat tomes then take it, to get even higher stats, at 18th.
