| kthorne02-15-07, 10:49 PM | Mance is my fighter 10/ tempest 5 character. We will be moving towards epic levels, so this could be a long-term guy. Stats (w/ mods) Str 20 Dex 22 Con 18 Int 14 Wis 18 Cha 9 He currently has an AC of 36, and fights with a longsword and a shortsword, giving him attacks of +23/+23/+18/+13/+22/+17. Feats: Close Quarters Fighting Dodge WF/GWF: Longsword Improved Crit: Longsword 2 Weapon Defense/Improved 2 Weapon Fighting/Improved Mobility Power Attack Power Critical: Longsword Spring Attack and all the Tempest class abilities MY QUESTION: What should I do now? Go fighter and pick up more feats? Improved Toughness/Improved Initiative/Greater Weapon Defense and Greater Two Weapon Fighting are on my list. Go some other class/which one? HELP! |
| Blade271802-15-07, 10:53 PM | Retraining. Check your PHBII. On a serious note, crack open the PHBII; there are some good feats for a high-level fighter, such as Weapon Supremacy and Melee Weapon Mastery. |
| PhoenixInferno02-15-07, 11:16 PM | Retraining. Check your PHBII.That's my recommendation as well - and I'm not kidding. TW Defense? What CRAP! |
| icedrake02-15-07, 11:52 PM | What books do you have access to? To get the most power for each level you'd take, I suggest Warblade. Get stormguard warrior quickly and check out the stances avaiable to you. Consider some ways you could get more damage after each attack. Rogue levels for sneak attack would be a really, really good suggestion, though I think Tome of Battle would serve you best. |
| Bengal02-15-07, 11:57 PM | You should genuinely consider retraining a couple of those feats and taking better feats, such as from the PHB II or the Tome of Battle, if you have access to it. Unless you've got your heart set on them for some reason. |
| Number_Nine02-16-07, 02:42 AM | I say that retraining is a VERY good idea. As far as PrCs go, i suggest dervish. Since you're already a tempest, double scimitar whirling fury seems a good way to go. |
| tsuyoshikentsu02-16-07, 02:45 AM | I didn't think that looking at a build could actually physically hurt. I was wrong. Retrain. Seriously. |
| pfooti02-16-07, 10:20 AM | At the very least, Oversized two-weapon fighting (complete adventurer, I think). Gives you the ability to fight with two longswords instead of longsword-shortsword. |
| colm_l02-16-07, 12:04 PM | While I generally don't like advocating retraining or psychic reformation - I'd advise it here (If it's the character rather than the build you're attached to). Missing info we need: Race, ability scores without enhancement or inherent bonuses and better info on style of character (no point in us recommending pious templar for example if he's a god hating Athar at heart). After a great deal of discussion, there's a list of common wisdom on these boards about two weapon fighting and preparing for epic play. Some of this you'll know already. First: tempest isn't worth it, Essentially you take 3 relatively worthless feats for an effective +2 to attack & The opportunity cost is too high (Revenant Blade for example gives far better return on investment for 5 levels) Second, more than fighter 4 is probably overkill, diminishing returns kicks in - you want to jump out as early as possible and find a better PRC or class. Third, Two weapon fighting generally needs a source of extra damage (Depending on race, Champ. of C. 2 will help a lot - giving dex to damage, or swashbuckler 3 which gives int to damage), an exception to this is Revenant Blade which allows you to treat both ends of a double ended weapon as a two handed weapon- giving you great returns on your two weapon fighting with high strength (elf only though). Feats Close Quarters Fighting -ok feat not spectacular though. Dodge - pointless (though required for your current PRC) WF/GWF: Longsword - fairly pointless to take GWF to be honest. Improved Crit: Longsword - good feat better on a bigger threat range weapon. 2 Weapon Defense/Improved - Singularly worthless feat chain, take Improved buckler defense instead and save yourself some feats (and get better return). 2 Weapon Fighting/Improved - good feat, should really be up to greater by now though. Mobility - pointless (though required for your current PRC) Power Attack - Fine choice, would work better for a non-two weapon fighter or Revenant Blade though Power Critical: Longsword - this feat is pretty worthless for you. Spring Attack - pointless (though required for your current PRC) You should be able to make good use of some of the links here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=482636 Good luck |
