OK i had to scrap my barbarian build idea so I am going to attempt to play an Air Genasi Fencer/Duelist fighter. I was hoping all you build wizards could help me out.

I have 70 points to distribute between the stats (not point buy). There is an LA of +1 associated with Air Genasi, so I haev 6 levels to work with. This character is not going to be strength based so Dexterity is key to his abilities.

Any build suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Swashbuckler 6 is always a sound build. Dump everything into Dex and Int and then fill in with Con and Cha as you want. Make sure your Str and Con are both at least 10, don't want negative to HP or damage. =)

Don't listen to Pon. Swashbuckler is something you either take 3 of or 20 of (and if you go for 20 you will be underpowered for a lot of levels).

As for me, I say take 3. Swashbuckler 3/Fighter 2/PrC you qualify for 1

10 Str, 18 Dex, 14 Con, 16 Int, 8 Wis, 6 Cha

Maybe a barb1 for the fast movement? Then flow straight into duelist.

Probably a very simple swashbuckling type:

Air Genasi 1
Swashbuckler 3
Fighter 6
Duelist 10

You could try dipping into Monk and grabbing Kung Fu Genius from Dragon 319 to use your Int instead of Wis for Monk abilities. With Kung Fu Genius and Duelist, you'll be adding your Int mod to your AC twice, the first unnamed and all at once, the second to your Dex-based Dodge AC and limited by Duelist levels.

In this case, you might prefer:

Air Genasi 1
Swashbuckler 3
Monk 6
Duelist 10

which would also give you another +1 AC, +20ft speed, 3 Monk feats, as well as all the other Monk abilities. If you use Unearthed Arcana, the Cobra Strike variant will give Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack. The first 2 you need for Duelist, and Spring Attack will work great with the Monk speed boost.

You'll also get a 100ft of charging over difficult terrain.

Beware the multiclassing XP penalties here, as well as the Monk's own levelling contract. Monk3/Fighter2/Swash3/X1 might be the safest option.

There's a feat somewhere that gives you an extra favoured class, I think... Found it - Diverse Background, Races of Destiny, 1st level only. As a Genasi, you certainly qualify as half-human, I'm sure. Select it for Monk.

If you really like initiative, you could try dipping into Bayushi Deceiver 2 from Oriental Adventures to add you Int to your Initiative. You could probably get enough from Duelist and Dex score, so its not worth worrying about.

Featwise, you might like Improved Levitation to get more use out of your levitation SLA; and Elemental Bloodline for various save boosts and light fortification. These are both from Races of Faerun. Magic in The Blood from PGtF will get you more uses of your Levitation SLA. Compare this with Improved Levitation to see what works best for you.

Your Fortitude and Will saves will fall well behind your Reflex saves (Monk levels help here). Great Fortitude and Iron Will are easy-but-small fixes here. Some regional feats from FR might also help you.

Don't forget the Weapon Focus and Improved Critical feats for the rapier or whatever weapon you choose. Weapon Specialisation too if you go with Fighter4.

Elven Thin/Courtblades seem quite popular with finesse builds as well.

Okay, get yourself a good Dex score and a decent Con, and pump the rest into Int. You'll get a huge AC score plus 25ft of personal space when you Spring Attack, 100ft of Acrobatic Charge, and have a good damage output. And you fly. Hey, its a hover-tank!

Thanks I modified the straight fighter build i had to swashbuckler 3, fighter 3, this gives me one less feat than straigth fighter, but more skills and INT to damage. Perhaps I will pursue a prestige class as i advance from there, or do a few more level sof fighter for feats then prestige. As a note i am also using feats from Dragon 301 for fencing.

Never stop at an odd level of Fighter. Take Fighter to 1, 2, 4, 6, and so on, but never stop at 3, 5, 7, etc. You're getting nothing: no feat, so skill points or class skills worth talking about. Dipping into anything else will get you more.

You are of course free to take another level of Fighter later on. And you should, to make that Fighter 3 worthwhile.
