Optimizers,

3.5 When Possible
Any WotC Source
20 level build (starting at 1st working up to at least 15th possibly all 20)

I am looking for a tricked out Alchemist build. The beginnings I have in mind are a Gnome Wizard 10/ Master Alchemist 10 or maybe even Wizard 5/ Elemental Savant (Earth) 5/ Master Alchemist 10. I picture him throwing Acid Flasks (and other alchemical goodies) at low levels and as he goes up in level relying more and more on potions and spells. Any good advice you can offer on an optimized Alchemist would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Necro

PS – I have a feeling if Snow (or some other Druid lover) catches this query they will be all like “The Druid is the best Alchemist in the Game {i.e. infusions and what not}” but I really would like to stick to the Arcane arts unless someone can make an irrefutable argument otherwise. Just out of curiosity are infusions worth anything? - I really don't know much about them...

Infusions are pretty hefty, yeah--they can do just about what the Master Alchemist's potions can do, except that the Druid has a workaround on the cost. Not a bad deal.

Still, the game would be boring if everyone played the exact same character, and there's nothing at all wrong with the Master Alchemist. I happen to think that it's up there with Candle Caster as an underrated class.

While I don't have my books handy at the moment to put together a build, a few suggestions:

1. Launch Item, from MoF, is your friend. Enchant yourself a use-activated tube big enough to fit a potion and mount it under a light crossbow. Voila: assault weapon with underslung potion-grenade launcher.

2. Take every possible step to keep the DM from smashing your potions...they seem to have a fetish for that. Ceramic-lined steel vials are standard issue for most of my alchemists, and I make sure never to put all of my potions in one place.

Y'know, it would be more like a shotgun with grenade launcher, seeing as how the rate of fire for a crossbow is kinda low.

Trying to nab yourself a Heward's Handy Haversack to keep your potions safe would probably prevent the glass vial breakage. An help you whip them off if your not going to wear that potion bandoleer thing.

But one good solid smach, and they could break.
