I've been intrigued by the Alienist PrC ever since I picked up CA. What base class would be best to get into Alienist? How would *you* minmax a 10th level Alienist?

thx

Wizard is probably the best base class for an Alienist. At your option, you can specialize in Conjuration for the extra spells or you can opt for greater utility instead. I'd probably be human for the extra feat. For stats, you want a high intelligence (obviously) and a wisdom that can easily reach 14 (after receiving the Alien Blessing). Dexterity and constitution should get whatever you have left, and strength and charisma are your dump stats. Worship a deity with the Summoner domain and have the same alignment as it.

My feat choices would go like this:

1: Spell Focus(Conjuration), Augment Summoning [human], Scribe Scroll [Wizard]
3: Arcane Disciple (Summoner domain)
5: Still Spell [Wizard]
6: Silent Spell
8: Quicken Spell [Alienist]
9: whatever you want
12: whatever you want, Sudden Extend [Alienist]
15: whatever you want
18: Innate Spell (Summon Monster I)

The class progression would be a very simple Wizard 5/Alienist 10/Thaumaturgist 5.

A slight variation could be made if you follow a deity with both the Summoner and Animal domains, such as Segojan Earthcaller. Taking Arcane Disciple a second time then would give you access to a couple of the Summon Nature's Ally spells.

Anyway, that's how I would do it. I'm sure there's a more optimal way.

Rapid spell would allow your summons to be cast as standard actions instead of 1-round casting time.

You could pick up the feat or a Rod of metamagic: Rapid Spell.
