Hi folks.
I'm playing in an Email-based adventure, all 3 levels high. This has been on hiatus for a while, but kicked back in over the weekend.

My Original Character: Monk2/Sorcerer1 (What was I THINKING???)

The Idea at the time being to get into a Monk/Gish Build. That was 3.0 Edition, and times, they are a changin'...

Having now ruled that PrC's can be used as BASE CLASSES, several of the players are, for example, Assassin3 or BlackGuard3... There are no spellcasters in the group, just a bunch of rogue types, really.

So, the Premise: I need a character that can kick butt at 3rd level, and be pretty fly for a white guyu all the way up.

Idea 1: Ir PrC's as Base are Allowed, Then a 3rd Level Mystic Theurge (a 3.5 class in the SRD/DMG) would be good. Small Offensive Magic as a Sorcerer, little bit of healing as cleric-what's not to like ?

Idea 2: Pure base class Druid. Will be more Spellcasting and Wildshaping than the existing monk idea.

Idea 3: Sorcerer1/Archmage2 - Mastery of Elements and Shaping would make this a Blaster-Mage type character.

Because we've already started the adventure, I can't change any big things about my character - she has gone so far without armour, and just a staff for a walking stick, so to suddenly have plate-mail and a greatsword is out of the question.

Also, because this is a play-by-email thing, the mechanics of the game take a decidely down-turn from role-playing and general abilities. I won't be making DC checks for Spell Resistance, for example. Spells will either work, or they won't. This put more of an emphasis on skills and general abilities, to boosting one ability out the wazoo.

I Think that's it. A Very Strange Request, I know, but one I thought y'all'd be willing to help with.

What's the best PrC's in the SRD/Splats to run as Base ?

Mystic Theurge doesn't give spells itself so to do your idea you would have to go Sorc 1/Cleric 1/MyTh 1...and you'll always be a level behind other casters..(2 in the case of the sorc)

Again, very much one of those un-written rules. I can use MysticTheurge as base, and just choose 2 classes to be the "base". So MysticTheurge 3 will give me (effectively)Sorc3/Cleric3. That's why I'm thinking that's the go here.

I have no idea how the powerlevel of characters are gonna go here... to have Ass3 mixing it up with Rogue3 and Fighter3 types... well, it'll be interesting, to say the least.

You can CHOOSE two classes to be the base classes?

How, exactly, does this work? You can freely ignore the prerequisites of those "base" Prestige Classes?

Interesting.

How about:

*Arcate Trickster 3, with Ur-Priest as your "base class" for spellcasting. Arcane Trickster doesn't need to modify an arcane spellcasting class, after all--you simply need to have arcane spells to meet the prerequisites.

*Mystic Theurge 3, combining Ur-Priest and Sorceror as your "base classes."

This is even more stupid and broken then I first thought..

Hey, if they're having fun with it, so be it.

Now, if it's TRULY "all bets off," go with Heir of Siberys 3, with Ur-Priest as your base class for spellcasting.

Mark of Making twice per day--now, at your level, you can only create three cubic feet of anything.

3 cubic feet of diamond, though, is worth a fair bit of cash. ;)

I'm sure there's stuff that's worth more though. Platinum, or Adamantine, Mithral, Cold Iron, etc...

If you do that, though, you'll ruin the local economy. Though you'll have plenty for future resurrections.

Since it's the value of the diamond in GP which matters, you'll need a LOT of diamond as well...

Naah. It's all a question of careful investment and speculation. Just because you CREATE a million gold pieces worth of precious stones doesn't mean you have to sell them all at once, or in the same place.

Just enough to purchase and crew a couple of trading vessels, then send those off to sell the diamonds in chunks abroad. If one of the vessels gets lost, or the crew makes off with the diamonds, what of it? Plenty more where those came from...and, of course, every cargo need not be diamonds. Three cubic feet of saffron would be worth a LOT of money.

Back Again ;)

No BoVD/BoED. Drat! I was looking forward to that Ur-Priest...
And no-one is this group has Eberron, so another great idea gone to hell.

Now an Arcane Trickster... there's an idea I hadn't considered.
However with so many other rogues in the party, it is perhaps not necessary.

You can CHOOSE two classes to be the base classes?

Yep. Who knows how long this campaign will last, as the classes and power level are all over the shop, but I'm leaning more and more towards pure druid. It's in flavour, RP wise, and it's not exactly like druids are underpowered, hmmm ?

So all I need to do is swap my familiar to be an animal companion, lose the Feat: WeaponFocus (Unarmed) and go berko on Wildshape.

Thanks for everyone's input on this very odd one.

You're behind the times, my friend. Ur Priest can be found in Complete Divine now...about as close to core rules as you get without actually being core rules. :)

Nar Demonbinder/Ur Priest or Nar Demonbinder/Divine Crusader

This is a sick rule system.

hehe i was going to say lion of tsalid for a druid if you could use the BOED... but my vote goes to myTh for this one... as a spellcaster with FULL cleric and wizard progression.... wow... thats all i have to say.. even if you dont use ur priest thats insane power... or you could go favored soul/sorceror progressions if you like spontaneous casting, you would get pretty much all your bases covered for offense/defense spells and a TON of spells per day, just boost your CHA sky high

all this too-easy-min-maxing reminds me of gestalt for some reason...

If your DM rules that Mortal Hunting ability is identical to Favored Enemy, then:

Blackguard 1/Mortal Hunter 1/Foehunter 1 ... true nastiness

ok, so here is how you break the system:

pick your favorite prestige class that has 10 levels of "gains spells of a previous spellcasting class"

choose mystic theurge as the class. then for the two mystic theurge classes you can pick ur priest, and your favorite arcane class.

congrats you are now leveling up 3 classes at the same time. its practially gestalt. now your options are endless. pick a class with lots of hp, like those combat casters from complete warrior. pick a class whos spell level requirements you dont meet, because you can. whatever. then go win.
