It's been a good run, but sadly, all good things must come to an end.

I have noticed, as more and more 3.5 stuff gets released, a lot of my classic builds are becoming defunct. Bob the Necromancer and the Munchking, among others, are no longer viable because of changes to Master of Shrouds and the Puppeteer, respectively. I heard that with the changes to the Shugenja in CD, even my original fighter/mage/cleric build might not work anymore. I suppose this is a good thing - some of these builds were pretty abusive, and in any case, other good stuff has come up to take their place (ie, the king of smack.)

The Munchking is now, as far as I can tell, beyond all hope. Since the Puppeteer is now a magical beast instead of a vermin, the symbiotic template no longer works. Some people have made heroic attempts to save Bob by substituting Contemplative for MoS, but while legal according to the rules as written, it seems a stretch according to the "spirit" of the rules (more of my thoughts on this in the other thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=252566)).

Even though the TN trick is harder to pull off now, Ur-Priest remains a strong option for characters wanting to play mage/priests. Some people have been wondering how I meet the bluff requirements for Ur-Priest. I keep forgetting to mention this when I respond to posts or emails about the build, but the key is to use Scorpion Clan Human from OA as your race. They get Bluff as a class skill in exchange for Rogue as their favored class.

Wiz5/Pale Master1/Ur-Priest2/MT8/PrC4 still works, and in fact increases your wizard caster level by 1 over the previous build. If your DM will allow contemplative you could try

Wiz5/PM1/UP2/MT7/Cont1/PrC3, for essentially the same setup as before (but minus a couple domains).

But off of optimization, and onto a more personal note.

As I said, all good things must come to an end... and sadly that includes my tenure on the minmax boards, at least for the time being. Not only have I finally come to the realization that my D&D days are probably over for good (I'm moving in the fall), but I'll be traveling the far corners of the world for the next three months. I don't expect to have access to reliable or speedy Internet service during that time. However, when I travel, I like to send emails to friends about what I'm up to. I consider many of you friends, even though we've never met, and I look forward to staying in touch. If you'd like to hear from me, send an email to lordshade@softhome.net and I'll add you to my mailing list.

I wish you all the best in your efforts to make DMs cry, and I hope to see many dazzling displays of your min-max fu in three months. Happy gaming!

Don't worry about being in the 'far-corners of the world', its round. By the way, I've met more english speaking gamers in China than I ever did in Texas, or the U.S. in general. So have no fear, we are everywhere.

Oh my. :(

A bittersweet farewell, LordShade. At least it sounds like your near horizon will be fun and full of adventure.

I've said it before and I will say it again, your Min/Max Fu is Strong. Strong as in CO Forum "Hall of Fame" Strong. ;) Somewhere, somehow though, I sense you'll return in some capacity. Maybe to lurk, maybe to create, maybe to spruce up Bob one last time and wheel him out to show off to a new generation of wild-eyed Optimizers. But hell, just drop by to say "Hey!" if you can, down the road perhaps. I will indeed send you an e-mail.

Travel safe!

Respectfully,
Snow Savant

The King of Smack is a fine and fitting parting gift for the board; many thanks for that and all the other monstrosities you've inflicted upon unwary DMs (and players, too). Good luck and have fun in your travels.
