| DM_Dracophile01-05-06, 10:00 PM | In your opinion, what would be the Level Adjustment (if any) of the ability to cast Alter Self 2/day? Had a Human that wanted to add on a little morphing power :D |
| Kilo2401-05-06, 11:39 PM | Heck, with the new FAQ, -1. But seriously, that's a potential access to flight, speed, natural armor, water breathing, a fuse limbs advantage, magical disguises, and quite a few of the racial abilities of other races. It depends on how the caster level is determined (a set caster level of one limits it a bit), but I think, in the hands of an optimizer, it's pretty hefty. A LA of +3 is way too much, since you can just take 3 wizard levels instead with more benefits. A LA of +1 is a bit cheap, but it's an entire level down the drain for a single ability twice a day. LA +2 is expensive, but a worried DM could justify it (as long as they added another minor ability or two IMO.) If you were to switch out the Human's skill and feat abilities with the power, I think that it would be a fair trade with no LA. Otherwise, I'm thinking a +1 would be suitable. |
| tsuyoshikentsu01-06-06, 12:18 AM | Look at it this way: Would a player, every time, pick a race whose ONLY ability was to Alter Self 2/day, which in and of itself is not broken at these LAs? The answer is: what's the base creature type? At humanoid, I think I'd allow it at +1, or even +0. Abberation? Not a snowball's shot in H*ll of lower than +2. |
