ed209 09-18-06, 11:09 PM	... I had originally responded to this thread and was following up when I came across the above mentioned feat in Dragon Magazine #325. I've probably looked at it a dozen times by now; just didn't realize what it could ultimately mean to theurge builds. (if this has been mentioned before, then please, link it; I couldn't find it) It allows you to prepare divine spells as arcane (& vice versa) at -1 caster level. I believe this lets you use one class to qualify for the spell level prereqs of theurge PRC's, although you still need a second spellcasting class for advancement. (not to mention getting around arcane spell failure) Here's a simple 14 level example: (besides, I can't think of a good way to finish it off) Archivist 1/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 10 ... Take Alternative Source Spell at 3rd level, and at 4th your wizard can now cast 2nd level divine & arcane spells, qualifying for Mystic Theurge. At 14th level, you cast as a 13th level wizard, 11th level archivist. For more fun, be a specialist wizard, and take the Theurgic Specialist feat at 6th level. (from the same issue of Dragon Magazine) When casting from your specialist school, add together the caster levels of all spellcasting classes to determine caster level. So, if this were a diviner, his divinations would go off as a 24th level caster at 14th level! ... Or how about a simple Ur-Chord Lyrist build: (note, becoming an Ur-priest does not automatically make you an ex-druid, IIRC; you just lose the ability to cast as a druid) Rogue 2/Bard 2/Druid 2/Ur-priest 4/Sublime Chord 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 8 ... I took 2 levels of druid for the Fortitude prereq, 2 levels of bard for an extra caster level for Ur-priest. (sorry, I didn't bother looking at the skill prereqs to see if this build could possibly be legal) Take Alternative Source Spell at 6th level, and at 9th the Ur-priest can now cast 3rd level arcane spells, qualifying for Sublime Chord. With fractional base bonuses, this nets a 16 1/2 BAB. 15th level caster for the Ur-priest side, 12th level caster (ick) for the Sublime Chord side. I'm sure ya'll can come up with better examples...

Take Alternative Source Spell at 3rd level, and at 4th your wizard can now cast 2nd level divine spells, qualifying for Seeker of the Misty Isle. Plus, this character can use the Divine Metamagic feat!
PonTelon 09-19-06, 02:40 PM	I think you hit it on the nose. Divine Metamagic is one of the best abuses of this. It's like a majority of the Geomancer PrC in one feat.

So, I was going through my subscribed threads today, and came across a gem I had completely missed the first time around: the Magical Training feat, from Player's Guide to Faerūn. Gives you some 0-level arcane spells & a minimum arcane caster level of 1; must be taken at 1st level, choose to cast as either a sorcerer(CHA, spontaneously) or wizard(INT, spellbook). Prereqs are racial and attribute based. This (along with Alternative Source Spell) would allow silliness such as: Cleric 3/Geomancer 10/XX 7 ... Change you caster attribute to CHA. Strenghtens Divine Metamagic & other turn based builds. Or how about the Divine Trickster: Rogue 3/Cleric 5/Arcane Trickster 10/XX 2 ... Even the Divine Bard gets some love: (although far from optimal) Divine Bard 5/Mourner 5/Sublime Chord 2/Sacrd Exorcist 2/Virtuoso 6 ... Craziness... *grin*
