| olothfaern09-22-04, 04:32 AM | I apologize if this has been mentioned before... Spells per Day: When a new mystic theurge level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in any one arcane spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class and any one divine spellcasting class he belonged to previously. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that he adds the level of mystic theurge to the level of whatever other arcane spellcasting class and divine spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class or more than one divine spellcasting class before he became a mystic theurge, he must decide to which class he adds each level of mystic theurge for the purpose of determining spells per day. Spells per Day/Spells Known: At each level, a runesmith gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class level. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of turning or destroying undead, metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). If he had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a runesmith, he must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day and spells known. When a new Runecaster is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in whatever divine spellcasting class granted him access to 3rd level spells before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (impreved chance of turning or rebuking undead, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. This essentially means that he adds the level of runecaster to the level of whatever other divine spellcasting class granted him access to 3rd level spells, then determines spells per day, and spells known, and caster level accordingly. If a character had more than one divine spellcasting class that granted access to 3rd level spells before he became a runecaster, he must decide to which class he adds each level of runecaster for the purpose of determining spells per day and spells known. Now my supposition is that Mystic Theurge counts as an arcane spellcasting class and a divine spellcasting class. Since Mystic Theurge was the divine spellcasting class that gave you access to 3rd level spells, wouldn't each level of Runecaster add a level of Mystic Theurge (ie. +1 arcane / +1 divine)? Similarly, since Mystic Theurge was an arcane spellcasting class that you belonged to before adding a Runesmith level, couldn't Runesmith add a level of Mystic Theurge (ie. +1 arcane / +1 divine)? I would've posted this on the clases/prestige classes forum, but the folks on the D&D fundamentals boards tend to engage in emotional, circular arguments; whereas the folks here tend to be more reasonable (ie. you won't flame me, but just cite text that details why I'm wrong) and if my supposition is correct (even for one of the classes, it would alter some aspects of optimization (since most caster PrC's contain similar language). |

So MT isn't a spellcasting class for the purpose of having other PrC add spellcasting levels to it. Instead, you add to the arcane class (for example Wizard) with Runesmith and to the divine class (for example Cleric) with Runecaster. |
