| Korhal IV02-20-07, 02:51 AM | New item found on page 139 of Secrets of Sarlona. For 5,000gp, you may, as an immediate action twice per day, replace your AC with the result of a Diplomacy check, *after* your attacker has made his roll (and, unlike AC, if your check *equals* the attack, you block it). If your attacker makes more than one attack against you in a round, you may block all of them with one activation of the amulet and a single Diplomacy check. Now, if we pull one of the over +150 Diplomacy builds that are hanging around this board into the equation, you can instantaneously get a nigh-unhittable AC that applies for the whole round. This includes against AoOs, so if you can afford multiple Amulets (should be easy by mid-level), you can discard an Amulet (dropping is a free action), put on the new one (move-equiv? I'd bet this draws an AoO), and have a standard action left over. Very useful if you're going to be running a high-Charisma social build but don't want to be vulnerable in combat - at the very least, a social build gets two rounds of combat immunity per day. I'm mulling over a build that might make the best use of this - IIRC warlocks get an invocation that adds +6 to Diplomacy, so a half-elf warlock with maxed-out Diplomacy has (level)+(Cha)+11 before he throws in any Charisma-boosting or Diplomacy-boosting items, such as the Circlet of Persuasion, which are much, much cheaper than buying Armor Class boosts. I dunno if you jaded CO regulars will think this is exciting, but I thought it was pretty cool. Too bad I've already rolled up an antisocial beater for my upcoming campaign! :) |
| Mahrke02-20-07, 03:14 AM | Sounds great. Most combats in the games I play in don't last more than 4 rounds, so a few of these things provide almost complete immunity to attacks for Diplomonster builds (which, unfortuneatly are useless, as my DMs never, ever, EVER, let players use social skills. Except Bluff and Sense Motive, of course.) |

None other than that. Flavor: Having seen so many people stray off the path of their destiny, this minstrel forsook his unlawful ways and sought to bring as many others to the faith of Chaav as possible. Now he and his entourage roam the country side seeking those that have lost faith in not only the Gods, but themselves. He motivates those he finds to take up the life of a servant of Chaav through simple conversation and abhors physical combat. His cohort is a simple man as well, though not to the point of voluntary poverty nor is he exalted. He recognizes that someone is going to have to pay for their lodging and food for the followers and whatever else his magic can't supply and he gladly accepts that responsibility. Cohort: Human Wizard 13/Archmage 4 Important feats:skill focus spellcraft, spell focus:necro, spell focus:enchant, quicken spell, innate spell his cohort levels aren't overly neccessary for success so there are plenty other more optimized builds, I just chose this becuase it's simple and it works. Leadership also provides him with at least 7 other followers that constantly surround the Diplomacizer so they may "Aid Another" his diplomacy checks on command. Sources: PHB, DMG, BoED (AoP, VoP, CM, EoB), Complete Adventurer (Exemplar), Complete Divine (Contemplative, Divine Meta), MiniHB (Marshal), Races of the Wild (Ruathar) Tactics: Cast a persistant Ray of Hope Diplomacizer surrounds himself with cohort and 7 followers Activate aura of motivate charisma (adding +10 to charisma based skill checks to all allies within 60 ft.) Utilize bardic knowledge, Blessing of the pearly heaven or Gather Information to learn about TBoS Cohort casts scry and teleports everyone to within walking distance, but not line of sight. If Scry doesn't work, Gather Information, Cohort spells, etc. Approach TBoS and Speak Ruathar Word of Friendship. The magical effects are blocked by the AMFs, but the TBoS should recognize the word nonetheless. I assume the Betrayer would begin as Indifferent as opposed to hostile or unfriendly and thus the DC to change his perspective to Fanatic is 90 according to my ELH (which I hope and pray is still correct) The Diplomacizer then makes his diplomacy check which breaks down like this: 23 ranks +3 skill focus +2 perfection (sacred vow) +1 luck (servant of the heavens 1/day) +6 synergy from Bluff, Sense Motive, and Know: nobility + royalty 5 ranks +10 circumstance (Marshal Aura of Motivate Cha) +10 Cha bonus +4 exalted (Vow of peace) +4 competence (Exemplar skill artistry) +4 sacred (Joy Domain) +2 morale (Persistant Ray of Hope) +16 (Aid another) or +85. The diplomacizer always takes 10 on Diplomacy checks and thus auto-succeeds at making the Betrayer fanatic to him. This is a nonmagical, mind-affecting enchantment which does not appear on the list of immunities. So, the Diplomacizer asks the TBoS to talk with him about the gods and his beliefs and whatnot. Assuming the TBoS is convinced to walk and talk with the Diplomacizer (this would imply that he is Fanatic and thus would DIE for the Diplomacizer but I'd like to make this a little Friendlier; he is LG after all) The Diplomacizer asks the Betrayer to kindly rid himself of the pesky AMFs so that his (the Diplomacizers) beneficial spells currently in place can stay in place while they walk together (a Fanatic creature should comply, IMO, thus dropping all current and continget AMFs) The Diplomacizer then takes a full-round action to attempt a conversion as per the Emissary of Barachiel. I don't know what an alignment/Diety shift would do to the betrayer, but if it screws with his requirements/Prcs/feats at all, cool. Whether or not the conversion is successful, doesn't concern the Diplomacizer. He simply keeps the Betrayer talking and listening until all of his spells effects are gone and kindly asks him not to renew his spells. (Theoretically, I could simply ask/tell him to dismiss/dispel them, but I'm a nice guy) At that point the archmage cohort could do a number of things to the pseudo-defenseless Betrayer. I've spent a decent amount of time in this attempt to make the Betrayer defenseless and not much time actually determining the killing blow. I guess I'll leave that up to the imagination for now until I decide on something. I'd like to state that I realize this is kind of "thrown together" or sloppy looking, but I think it gets the job done. Also, this character concept genuinely appeals to me and thus I may have vastly overlooked something important. The solution would be to incorporate an immunity to this effect (I.E. mind blank, etc.) At one point, LoP, you mentioned attempting to find a way to use Mind Blank. This challenger, challenges you to "officially" incorporate this ability into your build (unless, of course, I've missed something and you already have) I've modified one of the following builds and give well-deserved "props" to Master of Squirrles and MWaO (among others) for their amazing contributions here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=163146 |
