Maenad Fighter 2/ Barbarian 3/ War Mind 5/ War Hulk 10 Feats/Features of note: Permanency + Enlarge Person, Educated Feat, Whirlwind Attack, Sweeping Strike, Massive Swing, +1 Wounding Spiked Chain. From the War Mind entry in the SRD: Sweeping Strike (Ex): At 5th level, a war mind gains the ability to make great, sweeping swings with a melee weapon. On each melee attack a war mind makes, he can choose squares he threatens that are adjacent to each other, and his attacks apply to creatures in those two squares equally. A war mind can use this ability on any attack, even an attack of opportunity or a cleave attempt. A war mind cannot use this ability if he has moved more than 10 feet since the end of his last turn. If a war mind drops one or both of his foes with a sweeping strike, he can attempt a cleave normally; however, he makes only one cleave attempt per sweeping strike, even if he drops more than one foe. The War Hulk's Massive Swing allows him to make each attack apply to every creature within reach, using the same attack roll. This means that every melee attack the character makes will affect each creature within reach, plus one creature adjacent to the original target of the attack will be affected twice. I'll assume that none of these actually counts as an additional attack, because it would mean two things: This combo would not work with Whirlwind Attack, but it would lead to an infinite-number-of-attacks loop. The character uses Whirlwind Attack while multiple foes are within reach. (Maybe a friendly PC/Cohort cast a Twinned, Rod of Maximized Summon Monster III to conjure ten creatures from the first level table.) Count the number of creatures within reach (of the large creature wielding a Spiked Chain). Each of those creatures will be subject to that many attacks thanks to Massive Swing. Hopefully, each summoned monster appeared adjacent to a foe. One opponent adjacent to each summoned monster will be subject to an additional Sweeping Strike attack. Any two adjacent foes will each be subject to an additional Sweeping Strike. Lets assume there is one Large+ foe within reach, and ten monsters are summoned adjacent to it. That foe would be attacked twenty-one times. Assume there are two foes, adjacent to each other, and five monsters are summoned adjacent to each of them. They would each be attacked eighteen times. If there are a whole shatload of opponents, they're doomed; especially if they are adjacent to each other. I likely used the most conservative approach to interpreting how those two abilities interact. Imagine the character, surrounded by enemies. He makes one swing, which moves in a circle striking each opponent, bringing his weapon all the way around to eventually strike a creature adjacent to the original target a second time. If these abilities count as giving additional attacks, it becomes a loop giving the character an infinite number of attacks per round, as long as there are two adjacent opponents within reach. If you want this order with extra cheeze, it will cost you one Bag of Rats, and there will be a Great Cleave substituted for your Whirlwind Attack. |
