| AnAverageDM01-14-05, 11:29 AM | i'm starting a new campaign and decided to be a ranger. i then preceded to roll 17, 17, 16, 16, 14, 12 (best 3 out of 4d6). some kick ass roll. but now i don't know where to put them. any sugestions? thanks |
| Dain01-14-05, 11:46 AM | I assume you want to be an archer ranger? If you're going clean ranger 2-weapon fighting is rather weak. Str 14 Dex 17 Con 17 Int 16 Wis 16 Cha 12 There you go. |
| Zherog01-14-05, 11:49 AM | Some other things you can answer: -- Do you plan on going TWF or archery? -- if TWF, do you know what weapon(s) you want to use? Others will like those answered, but my arrangement probably works OK for either style: STR: 14 DEX: 17 CON: 17 INT: 16 WIS: 16 CHA: 12 If I were going the TWF route, I'd grab up weapon finesse and use a pair of shortswords. I put the 16 in INT because I love skill points - you can never have enough skill points. Charisma is certainly your "dump" stat for a ranger - but a 12 for a dump isn't bad at all. You could flip-flop strength and wisdom and have good benefits; I went that way because I like a decent Will save. |
| Lord Likk01-14-05, 11:54 AM | will also help out a dual-wielder if they take swashbuckler 3. i suggest going that route, not taking weapon finesse (swashbuckler provides it at 1), and doing roughly 1d6+6 in your on hand and 1d6+5 in the other, assuming +1 weapons by lvl 5. |
| Dain01-14-05, 11:59 AM | If you want more help you should post what kind of character you'd like to play. Race, melee or ranged, books allowed, etc. 'Cause I could make one hell af a Deepwarden build with those stats. |
| AnAverageDM01-14-05, 12:22 PM | i am going archer and it looks like Zherog and Dain think alike. i'm also going to choose point blank shot as my first level feat (i'm have to be a half-elf, no bonus human feat). is there any other feet out there that would be better for an archer build? here are the restrections for the campaign: The following races are allowed for players: - Elf (favored class changed from Wizard to Ranger) - Gnome - Half-Elf - Halfling - Human Dwarves and Half-Orcs are specifically excluded. | Dain01-15-05, 07:00 AM | Figured I'd reply - it would just be unfair if you had written all that stuff and no answers. BTW - it seems a little odd that Dwarwes are off limits and Deepwarden (but not Stoneblessed) isn't...? I'd go with Ranger 11/xxx 9. The last 9 levels could be Horizon Walker for example, or Rogue, if you're more into that. The Horizon Walker is a good PrC - gives some nice abilities. Rogue could be good for the skill points and SA. Just be sure to take the first 11 levels in Ranger. They're all good, but from level 11 and on it doesn't really improve that much. |
