| Arkham0009-01-06, 07:26 AM | Guys what do you think about a Warmage ( CA )with at least 1 cleric level (for turn undead) to take Divine vigor and Divine Shield? Or maybe 1 or 2 more levels for gain some good divine low level spells. I see good HP and and good armor for a character able to tank in melee and blast enemies with his spells ,and maybe when out of spells castng Thunderlance (with the advanced learning variant from PHBII ) and kill the survivors :P Im' currently at work and i only got the raw idea, when i'll be at home i'll make a build ,but i couldn't resist to post it, to know what you think about ^_^ |

| Arkham0009-01-06, 07:43 AM | Duskblade what? |
| ChristopherGroves09-01-06, 07:45 AM | Anytime you're diluting your primary caster levels you're hurting yourself. If you want to be a Warmage the better options would be to look for ways to expand and build on the class as it is and exploit its strengths. Todd has a Warmage guide somewhere and there's at least one thread talking about how you might be able to expand a spell list ... and since Warmages can cast anything on their spell lists, that can be pretty powerful. A duskblade (or beguiler) with extra spells will eventually out-pace a Warmage though I think. |
| Arkham0009-01-06, 08:33 AM | I think that 1 level for the possibility to raise AC by 7-8 point(at higher lvls) and 2 additional HP per level isn't so harmful. im currently playing a duskblade, and i really love it,and probably is much stronger than a warmage. But are two very different characters, the only thing that they have in common is armored mage, but the first strikes like the hell in melee and the second blast enemies with his spells,so a complete different flavor. What i was thinking was a true front-line pure caster, not a gish. Think about a guy who casts arcane spells with 16 dex and 28 cha ,wearing a mithral full plate +5 and a heavy shield +5, 33 base AC without items ,and 42 using divine shield ! for a caster ! O_O I find it amazing. The matter is that i normally hate pure casters due to their vulnerability,i mean few hp and ridiculus AC,i 've always liked front-line PCs. So warmage seems viable for me,but it wasnt enough so i tought to enhance it,to satisfy my wishes ^_^ Finally IMHO warmage doesn't need to expand so much his list,he has good spells for dealing great damage,i don't care about support or buffs, the warmage has to deal damage and anything else :D Do you think is so bad? |
| ChristopherGroves09-01-06, 08:36 AM | Do I think it is bad? hmm ... yes and no. It is certainly one of the least powerful classes out there. What do you want to do with your warmage? Wear heavy armor and blast the crap out of things? What race are you considering (or are you open)? What books are allowed or not? And at what levels will you start and end the campaign? |
| Arkham0009-01-06, 08:57 AM | Race : open but i prefear Humans for the feat and for roleplay Books : all except dragon magazines and 3.0 For the rest is not for a Character that i need ATM. I'm, currently playing(in 3 different groups) a Duskblade,a Paladin/shadowbane inquisitor and an hobgoblin Ftr i think it's enough :P Is to discuss an idea just for fun or for giving ideas to someone or maybe for a future PC of mine :P ,so consider a character playable rom the ealy levels to at least lvl 15-16,later i will do the same :) |
