An Immortal [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-03-05, 05:19 PM Just for the fun of it, I'm attempting to make a character that has no maximum age, doesn't age, and doesn't need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep.

And playing as a god doesn't cut it here. I'm talking a mortal and making them immortal.

So, I've figured out so far that Cloud Anchorite from Frostburn can make a character have no maximum age, that Vow of Poverty can keep a character from having to eat, drink, or breathe, and that either Monk or Druid levels can grant me Timeless Body.

So, is this build even feasible in 20 levels? I don't mind going epic if it can't be done in 20 levels. I'll post some kind of build as soon as I have my copy of Frostburn.

01-03-05, 05:37 PM Green Star Adept (complete arcane, found here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20041105a&page=1)) isn't good for much, but it's good for this. There are a couple threads devoted to the class.

Other options: Maug (PC-legit construct from Fiend Folio), or Elan from Expanded Psionics Handbook.

01-03-05, 06:27 PM I also recommend a Warforged from Eberron--actually a good race for monkish purposes (not so hot for druid, tho). There you have the no food/water, sleep, or breathing covered. Just get high enough in monk to get timeless body and you are set. Even if you don't go the druid or monk route, warforged only ever suffer the aging penalties once, and have no maximum age. That pretty much seems to qualify to me.

01-03-05, 11:23 PM This is a little off the wall but alot of fun. I like the Curst template. Basically you become an undead, which of course all undead have your no sleep, eat, and breath abilities. The only way to kill a Curst is to cast remove curse on it. Otherwise it has regeneration against everything. Take your Curst into Kensia levels and pick your jaw as your signature weapon. Then use the 3.0 weapon property Spellblade. Make yourself immune to 5 spells by taking this 5 times. Pick Greater Dispell, Remove Curse, Limited Wish, Miracle, and Wish. There is not too many other spells that could emulate remove curse. The only other effect you might have to fear is disengrate.

Hmmm, you might want to remain vulnerable to disease if you're planning on being immortal.

Why do you want to be vulnerable to disease? So you can contract Festering Anger and sit in an extradimensional space for a couple of millenia. +1461000 enhancement bonus to strength for the simple cost of a 1/day item of Restoration.

01-04-05, 08:36 AM Beloved of Valarian (BoED) , while not being the strongest PrC around, grants Timelessness at level 1. While you have your unicorn around , you won't age.

01-04-05, 08:51 AM An Elan has no maximum age; (Class) 5/ Tattooed Monk (CW) 5 with the Crane as his first tattoo has Timeless Body. He can spend 1 powerpoint/day to avoid eating and drinking. Ioun Stones can help him avoid breathing. A 3.0 intelligent item could sustain its wielder without breathing or sleeping for 15000 gp, but they took it out in 3.5 :weep: So, by level 10 you can have (nearly) all of your goals accomplished.

Take Psychic Warrior 4 or Fist of Zuoken (XPH) 3 and you can manifest Body Purification 2+ times/day. If Festering Anger (BoVD) is considered a magical disease, or possibly if you contract it prior to gaining the Crane tattoo, you can have an infinite Enhancement bonus to your Str score, if you start at level 13:

Elan, any Lawful
Cobra-Strike Monk (UA) 5/ Tattooed Monk 5/ Fist of Zuoken 2/ Elocator 1
Feats:
1. Dodge (bonus), Improved Unarmed Strike (bonus), Improved Grapple
2. Mobility (bonus)
3. Endurance
6. Wild Talent (unless the Elan's bonus 1 powerpoint can replace it)
9. Feat
12. Spring Attack

Or, take a 3rd FoZ level instead of Elocator, and you can jump back into Monk to eventually get Greater Flurry.

I'm pretty sure that if you cure the _disease_ then, yes, the strength bonus would vanish. However, you're not curing the disease, you're just repairing the damage after it occurs. On the other hand, it'd be a very good house rule to drop the enhancement bonus if you repair the con damage otherwise the ubiquitous Hulking Hurler could cheerfully cause enough damage to powder a small moon with that much strength (no, really, I can run the numbers if you like).

01-04-05, 12:33 PM Might want to work in Fearless Destiny from Races of Destiny. (Humans or half-human requirement.) It turns anything that knocks you below -10 hit points to -9 hit points and stabilizes you. Jump off a 400 foot cliff! Ow! I'm ok!

01-05-05, 12:12 AM Well, a tweak might be a modification of the Illumian ritual that transforms you from a human to an Illumian. Done before so there is a precedent (changed a bard into a non-aging Illumian who only needs fear death through violent means such as a sword, etc...).

Then you could be a Monk with the Vow of Poverty and have fun. Or actually, I guess become anything that would allow you to avoid the eat, sleep, breath, and drink. Plus, you'd get a chance to play the "new" Illumian race.

Of course, there is only 1 such Illumian in existence made from the "modified" ritual so your DM might balk at creating another. Then again, if you lived long enough as an Illumian like that, you might just reach the point that if you did die, your Death Speech (or whatever they call it) transforms you into a demi-god (note: your immortal unless someone violently kills you and then you have a chance of becoming a demi-god upon your death = chances are you'll be around forever).
