What, in your opinion, is the most broken, inexpensive low-level item you can think of?

My suggestion -- "The Styptic Pencil":
Command-word triggered item (no charges) with level 1 cure minor wounds

Infinite 1-pt healing for 900 gp. Poke your party to full health while resting.

Your ideas?

candle of invocation, is I believe the cheapest and most abusable item: 8000 gp to use gate.

There was an entire thread devoted to its abuse.

That's a good bit more expensive than I was thinking of -- I was shooting for something a bit more low-level, but, um... Wow. I'm just... Wow.

the item you suggest would be cheaper if you made it into a trapped item. the spell is cast on someone who tries to sue the item. itll end up costing like 500Gp to make.

Best typo all night. "the spell is cast on someone who tries to sue the item."

Not a valid item price based on similar items.

As for valid items, I think Hat of Disguise or Hand of Mage is the best.

Quaal's Feather Token (Tree) is pretty fun. You never know when you're gonna need a giant Oak. I've also had DMs allow my characters activating it whilst in the gullet of some nasty monster.

Scroll of Lesser Res - cheapest level 2 scroll ever at 25gp if made by a paladin.

Bunko's Bargain Basement is a list of items that are cost effective - either very cheap, or extraordinarily powerful.

Could you explain that? It's built the exact same way as the Hand of the Mage and has the same cost:

(Level 0 spell = 1/2 spell level) X (Caster level 1) X (Command-word item = 1800 gp)

You forgot the x10000 Awesomeness Modifier.

Also anything with an instantaneous duration is generally unsuitable for use with the continuous/unlimited price calculations.
Plus it makes quite clear that those price guidelines are just guidelines.
