| kleberelf10-01-06, 02:29 PM | Suggestions please.. Looking into making a fearsome Warlock build by stacking fear effects. Making a 1st level Warlock (human or strongheart halfling) in the FR setting. Nothing from the UA or "races" books are allowed. Looking to take advantage of current "Fear" rules stacking with each other when from different sources to make this PC's enemies run in terror. SO far from things I have read, obviously taking frightful blast is a key part of this build, but what are some other ways to make this PC's enemies get to the panicked state??? I hear Dreadful wrath from PgTF is a key feat to take at 1st level... From what i understand, with jus tthat feat and frightful blast, i get an enemy at least to the shaken state... Correct me if I am wrong??? One more feat to use then and then enemies are panicked.... Also, any other suggestions for this warlock build or links to helpful warlock threads would be great.. Thanks in advance. |

I dont know what the requirements but you can qualify for the ability to cast 3rd level spells with the earth spell and precocious apprentice combo |

| jameswilliamogle10-01-06, 05:28 PM | Intimidate skill can make people shaken, is that enough to start it off?Isn't there a way to get a free Intimidate somehow? Anyways, are you sure you want to do this? You'll end up spending a lot of resources in it (feats, invocations), forcing you into a specialist role, that can't affect Undead or Constructs... |
| journeyman77710-01-06, 07:41 PM | Kiai Shout and Greater Kiai Shout are feats from Complete Warrior that force every enemy < your level withing 30 feet save or become shaken/frightened (only 3/day each though). Intimidating Strike lets you make a single melee attack at a penalty and immediately follow it up with an intimidate with a bonus (power attack style). The Dread Witch PrC in Heroes of Horror lets you add a fear effect to any magical attack as well as boosting your fear DCs and letting you affect characters normally immune to fear (such as paladins). Ability Focus can boost the save DC of your frightful blast. Also, sickening blast is a good way to lower the will save on a target that has poor fort save. Honestly though, a Dread Necromancer might be a better class for this than warlock (they get a fear aura). Either way, try to convince the rest of the party to block off escape routes so that you can all beat up on the cowering foes (tripmasters and battlefield control casters synergize well with this concept). If you have a binder in the party, Focalor's Aura of Sadness and Chupoclops' Aura of Despair can lower nearby enemies saving throws to make your job easier against strong willed targets. |

| kleberelf10-02-06, 11:37 AM | Keep the ideas coming please. So far, I like the Dread Witch suggestion it goes along with what I am trying to accomplish with my PC. Any suggestions on Getting into it as a warlock only?? Any ideas from Optimization community on getting DM to let it fly that with Dreadful wrath feat from PgTf and Frightful blast invocation that I might qualify for class that requires you to be able to cast cause fear and scare??? Do You all think between the feat and invocation I would, that is enough to cover it??? IF not any suggestions on other ways a WARLOCk only can make it into class would be great. Even if I need to design an invocation. suggestions? Also, STILL LOOKING for feats or classes that would allow me to stack the fear effect I am going for here. With Frightfull blast/Dreadful wrath so far, I am one step away from being able to PANIC a foe in one round, which is the intention of this PC.. YES this is a specific/specialized build..... The campaign is going to be a pirate/high seas campaign and trying to build a "Fearsome" character that strikes fear (TRULY) into the hearts of the enemies of our ship's captain and can keep the crew in check through fear/intimidation if need be!. Thanks again in advance. |
| FriendlyFrog10-02-06, 11:49 AM | There's also the feat Awaken frightful presence in Draconomicin, if you're of the dragon type (most likely a Dragonwrought Kobold, which isn't that bad a race for a Warlock to begin with). |
| kleberelf10-02-06, 12:58 PM | Where is this "Dragonwrought Kobold" race from/book? I was planning on playing a strongheart halfling with the draconic template (+1ecl with a bonus to intimidate and a +2 to Str/Con/Cha). Thanks for the suggestion last poster for the draconomicon feat.. Will take a look at it.. |
| FriendlyFrog10-02-06, 01:03 PM | Dragonwrought is a racial feat for Kobolds from Races of the Dragon. It turns them into dragons, gives them darkvision, some minor skill bonuses or the like, and make it so that you don't take penalties from aging (free +3 to Int, Wis and Cha, woo!). |
| WildeSurge10-12-06, 09:18 AM | Not so free... Youīre likely to live only a few +Cha years (x5 if your draconic heritage is chromatic, x10 if itīs metalic), witch makes at best another 160, 170 years. Wait, thatīs not so bad! Great Wyrm Kobolds for the win! |
