Hello Guys,

Has anyone looked at the "Heretic of the Faith" feat found in the Power of Faerun book? It essentially allows you to be a cleric of a deity, grossily violate their dogma, and become a cleric within two steps of the deity's alignment. You also can change around some of their domains and the like. Now, this HAS to be abuseable!

My question is: How?

Can paladins use this to some extent or is it only clerics? I would love to have your interpretation of the feat.

Thanks!

Paladin / blackguard. Not ex-paladin blackguard.

So, do you all think this is more of a flavor feat than something that could really be used to a player's advantage?

Well, as far as I can tell, it will just allow you to use spells of the opposite alignment of your diety with no penalty. For instance, a Cleric of Pelor using Blasphemy.

Yeah, that's pretty much my interpretation as well. I don't think it will allow a paladin to become a blackguard yet still have the powers of a paladin. Or am I incorrect on that one?

It does make for some interesting heresy dogmas though! Chaotic Evil cleric of Sune? Sign me up!

My first thought was a heretical cleric of Lloth...IE, a good female priest.

Sorry.

I do rather like this feat; it'll be pretty nice for certain... restrictive DMs.

A paladin falls if he commits an evil act or if he stops being Lawful Good; this is separate from the paladin being one step in alignment from his deity.

This is quite cool. I can use Greater Consumptive Field and a bag of rats and then Blasphemy to kill myself and my own party without a save.

CLERICS 4TEHWIN!

I'm pretty sure this feat exists to finally communicate the fact to gamers that, despite what the flavor text pretends, there are no real limits on divine casters.:P

true, but thats almost arguable with the radicals ;) take book 2 of the avatar series: tantras. Torms highest priests became radicals and were MURDERING innocents because they believed it was their duty and they thought they were upholding the "law" and being "good"

Well, with the introduction of the feats that allow Druids to wildshape into "other" things (Like aberrations; 2 feats; I think there's one for magical beasts as well) they had to give the Neutral Good clerics of Pelor the ability to cast Harm whenever they wanted or summon undead.

Yes, that's the ticket, they had to give Clerics of Pelor the ability to Summon Undead.

To ... "practise" greater turning them and generating experience.

Hmm... ****, it's even an experience generating feat.

Radiant Servant of Pelor: Well, I haven't used all of my Greater Turnings today. I will call any nearby undead to me so that I may destroy them, for the glory of Pelor!
Casts Summon Undead
Undead: Urgggghh, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle.
RSoP: Greater Turning!!
Undead: Onoes!
RSoP: Yays! XP, and for me only b/c I was 'alone' for the whole encounter

I'm pretty certain that your own summoned creatures don't constitute any kind of Challenge worth Rating.

That RSoP called nearby undead.

I guess the designers finally got tired of seeing all those "Will my paladin fall if he does XXX?" threads... :D

Well, if your Paladin does XXX then yes, he probably violated some oath. Afterall, sex before marriage isn't allowed in the Church of Pelor. ;)

(I dont have the book) Would the feat allow Paladins for other deities than LN, LG and NG? Paladin self need to be naturally LG, but it could be nice to have paladin of LE or CG deity...

On topic, this looks like it'll make for some weirdness if it works on Divine Crusader, given some of the interesting yet single-deity-exclusive domains.
